Mayor Quinton Lucas joined Midwest Chicana Podcast Hosts: Community leader and Co-Founder Urbanworks Diosselyn Tot and Deanna Munoz Latino Arts Foundation (Founder & CEO). Mayor Lucas will joined us for 20 minutes to talk the state of the City currently during COVID 19, the effect it is having especially on POC small businesses and what plans are in place to ensure there is equity, sustainability for these vital small businesses in our communities. Mayor Lucas mentioned it is on his radar to find ways to help support the funding for smaller, newer art organizations such as Latino Arts Foundation so they too will remain sustainable. We also talked about the detention center that was slated to be in KCMO but now, with the Mayor and the communities, is no longer on the table. We talked LGBTQ representation at City Hall and the assurance of safe spaces, support and protection are in place for our LGBTQ communities. Since COVID, LAFoundation needed to pivot. With the pivot we wanted to ensure we were taking care of our mentors/mentees and community while bringing them the beautiful festival of our culture and art at the same time.  So we decided to go virtual and will run  from Sept. 1st to Sept 30th.  It was vital for us to showcase our communities art vibrancy along with our rich culture in both KCK and KCMO. So September was perfect.

We will be having an opening celebration online and closing celebration.  We will highlight youth and experienced visual, muralists, poets, creative writers and video/photography.  We will also highlight lowriders, food, product, music and dance.Details on how the LAFestival will work virtually for 2020. This episode highlights all the details for the LAFoundation Virtual Classes and the LAFestival virtual event for 2020.
