Friday Night Live | New Year, New Mentality

As the new year begins, many of us are setting new goals and new resolutions. It is imperative for us to remember while setting these goals that regardless of what the last year brought upon us, that we need to learn how to be optimistic about the future and reframe our mentality through the Prophetic lens. 

To speak about this topic we are pleased to have Mufti Abdur Rahman Mangera from England join us alongside our Miftaah scholars. The session will kick off with some poetry by Aqib Fareed from Pakistan.

The Prophet SAW as a Teacher

Regardless of how great an institution is or how special a classroom is, there has never been a classroom with better students than the Sahaba RA and a better teacher than the Prophet SAW himself. How did the Prophet SAW teach and help these people who hailed from different parts of the world?

Friday Night Live  | The Prophet SAW as a Family Man 

Most of us are at home with our families quarantining. It is imperative that we treat those closest to us with respect. The Prophet SAW was always a family man first and foremost; he took care of them at all times. 

This Friday Night Live, we welcome Ustadh Majed Mahmoud, who will discuss how the Prophet SAW was with his family alongside our Miftaah Scholars.

Turning a New Leaf

Our convert brothers and sisters face a great difficulty when they first join the beautiful religion of Islam, whether it be finding the right teachings, community, or support. We also have a phenomenon of Muslims who did not grow up with the teachings of the deen, but find a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to Islam. Both of these groups have their own respective difficulties, but by sharing them, we hope it becomes a means of ease.

Miftaah Institute welcomes Shaykh Abdullah Oduro who himself is a convert to Islam, converting in 1997. We hope to discuss the Turning of a New Leaf alongside our Miftaah Scholars. Also a means of ease are nasheeds, in which we have Shaykh Bakatullah Ashraf to open up our Friday Night Live session inshallah.

The Importance of Purpose 

Nihilism, the idea that life is meaningless, is rampant in Western society and has even crept into Muslims' ideologies. If one believes life is devoid of meaning, then life can become filled with anxiety, dread, and lethargy. Islam acts as an antidote to this, giving us purpose in our lives from all the way from the most important principle, the Oneness of Allah, to the simple acts of smiling at our brothers and sisters. 

This Friday Night Live, Miftaah Institute invites Ustadh Hamza Andreas Tzortzis, who specializes in Islamic philosophy and theology, to discuss the importance of purpose within our lives along with our Miftaah Scholars. The Language of the Qur'an | Friday Night Live

   One of the believer's biggest pursuits is to understand Quranic Arabic. We may sometimes have a misconception that the Arabic language is too difficult and is not for us, but that is far from the case. There is something special that happens when we simply make the intention and make an effort; Allah SWT makes it easy for those who are sincere in this pursuit. The feeling of being able to understand the Quran is transformative.  Ustadh Adam Jamal, who specializes in teaching Arabic, will discuss this with our Miftaah Scholars, who have spent years teaching the language of the Qur'an.

Remembering the Source of All Cures   The pandemic 😷 has made life a bit more difficult for all of us, ranging from mild inconvenience to losing some valued community and family members 😞. It is even more imperative during this hardship, that we spend it in remembrance of Allah, for He is the Source of all cures 💊. This remembrance gives our hearts ease 😌 and reminds us where our trust should be. To discuss this topic with Shaykh Abdullah Waheed, Miftaah invites Mufti Hussain Kamani, from Qalam 🖊 Institute.

Miftaah Institute

According to our guest Shaykh Rami Nsour, there are two peoples he has interacted with that remind him of the Companions: the Mauritanians (who he lived and studied with) and prisoners. Prisoners may sound like an interesting choice, but considering the struggles and the conditions that they practice their Islam in, it is easier to understand because of all that they have lost. Shaykh Rami firmly believes in Second Chances and he discussing his experience with Shaykh Abdullah Waheed and all of us, with the illustrious artist Br. Omar Esa starting our session.

The brightest day this world has seen was when the Prophet SAW was born. It was the beginning of a life that brought the light of revelation into the world, which had corrected and beautified the lives of many through the deen of Islam. Subsequently, the darkest day this world has experienced was when he SAW passed away, causing much grief to the ummah.   Although not as solemn as when the Prophet SAW left us, both Shaykh Noman Hussain and Shaykh Abdullah Waheed have recently experienced dark days through personal losses. In an emotional segment, they synthesize and discuss losing their beloved family members with the loss of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
