A mother in the US has spoken out after she was filmed being carried out of a school board meeting by police officers.
Lena Kotler attended the meeting to express concern over the Decatur City Schools Board of Education's changes to its diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
Ms Kotler, who has three children in the school district, was asked to leave after calling board members ‘cowards’ during the meeting.
According to a statement issued by the board to local media, two policies relating to equity and school board governance were rescinded, and three others were amended to remove terms related to equity.
“The action taken was in accordance with the federal requirements for all school districts nationally to certify that they comply with federal mandates …” the Decatur School District told 11Alive News.
As a condition for receiving federal money, the Trump administration is ordering K-12 schools in the US to certify that they are following federal civil rights laws and ending any 'discriminatory' diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
