South Korea has a new president after six months of political turmoil following former leader Yoon Suk Yeol’s botched martial law imposition and impeachment.
➡️ Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung wins the presidential election with 49.42% of the votes. However, there is still a deep political divide as the two conservative candidates together have won the same level of support.
➡️ “If the first agenda is to be economic growth over domestic social issues, that is a re-rating moment because it’s something new,” says KB Financial Group’s Peter Kim on how President Lee will differ from former president Moon’s policies coming from the same left-wing party.
