US President Donald Trump is cutting short his participation at the G7 summit and returning to Washington. The White House says his early departure is due to the "situation in the Middle East." The announcement comes just hours after Trump issued a warning to Iran on his Truth Social platform, urging people to immediately evacuate the Iranian capital, Tehran. Trump has reportedly directed his National Security team to meet in the Situation Room back in Washington.

A German court has sentenced a Syrian doctor to life in prison for crimes against humanity, as well as murder, torture and war crimes. Alaa M. was found to have tortured opponents of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad while working at a military prison and hospitals in Syria. He arrived in Germany in 2015 and worked as a doctor, before he was arrested in 2020 after being recognized by his victims in a TV documentary. Germany has tried several Assad officials under the legal principle of universal jurisdiction.

A dangerous new race to build nuclear weapons could be underway, according to a leading research body tracking global arms stockpiles.

In its annual report, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, also known as SIPRI, has highlighted a trend of growing nuclear stockpiles. According to its findings, nearly all of the world's nine nuclear-armed states are modernizing and upgrading existing weapons and adding new ones. Currently, the US and Russia own 90% of the warheads, while China’s nuclear arsenal is developing the fastest.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the death toll from Iranian missile strikes has now risen to 24 since Thursday. Eight people were killed in the latest wave of overnight strikes and dozens more injured after multiple missiles made it past Israel's air defenses. Loud explosions were heard in multiple cities, including Tel Aviv.
