Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and four other European leaders have just held a phone call with US president Donald Trump, and they are calling for a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire with Russia starting on Monday.

That's according to Ukraine's foreign minister, who described the phone call as 'fruitful'. The leaders of Germany, Poland, France and the UK arrived in Kyiv earlier on Saturday. They are part of the so-called Coalition of the Willing, which aims to pave the way for lasting peace in Ukraine.

Both India and Pakistan say they would consider de-escalating their conflict if the other side commits to the same. This follows several days of cross-border shelling and missile and drone attacks.

The Pakistani military released video in the early hours of Saturday, which it said showed medium-range missiles targeting Indian air bases. Pakistan said the strikes were in response to prior attacks by the Indian military. India said there was limited damage to equipment and personnel at four of its air force stations. The worst escalations in decades were triggered by a militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir last month. New Delhi says the militants were backed by Pakistan, which Islamabad denies.

State-run TV in Pakistan says the country has launched a retaliatory military operation against India. Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos, which translates to a firm wall of lead, is targeting military facilities in India.

The Pakistani military released this video and said they've used medium-range Fateh missiles to target a missile storage facility in Punjab and airbases in Pathankot and Udhampur. The assault was described as a response to Indian missiles targeting Pakistani air bases. This comes after a third day of heavy cross-border fighting. It's the worst confrontation between the two nuclear armed neighbors in decades.

Days earlier, India carried out airstrikes in Pakistan in retaliation for last month's attack on 26 tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Pakistan has rejected Indian claims that it was behind the attack.

South Africa says it is concerned about reports that the United States will begin taking in White South Africans, who claim they're being racially discriminated against at home. South Africa says the claims are unfounded. The foreign ministry said, "It is most regrettable that it appears that the resettlement of South Africans to the United States under the guise of being 'refugees' is entirely politically motivated and designed to question South Africa's constitutional democracy."

00:00 Media reports that South African ‘refugees’ will arrive in the US on Monday

01:34 Loren Landau, Professor of Migration and Development at the University of Oxford in the UK, tells DW why he thinks white South Africans have no basis to claim asylum in the US.

India and Pakistan are neighbors with a troubled history. They've already fought four wars, and are now embroiled in a crisis that could become their fifth. Last month, in Indian-administered Kashmir, 26 people - most of them Hindu tourists -were killed in what India says was a terrorist attack.

Although Islamabad says it had nothing to do with the attack, Delhi is accusing its neighbor of being a breeding ground for terrorists. The situation has spiraled in one deadly direction ever since -- with neither side willing to back down.

World leaders have been calling on India and Pakistan to ease the tensions.

DW speaks to Daniel Markey a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute, at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

Chicago-born Robert Prevost, 69, was confirmed as the successor to the late Pope Francis on Thursday, when plumes of white smoke billowed out from the Sistine Chapel's chimney — the traditional sign that the conclave of cardinals has chosen a new pope.

After his historic election, tens of thousands of well-wishers gathered in the Vatican on Thursday evening as Leo XIV appeared on the balcony of St Peter's Basilica to deliver a speech in English, Spanish and Italian.

DW's religious affairs correspondent Bernd Riegert said Leo XIV will be "a man of the poor, who cares for the disadvantaged in society."

Riegert said the new pontiff would likely "follow in the footsteps of the late Pope Francis."

Pope Leo XIV's election makes him the first North American to lead the world's estimated 1.4 billion Catholics.

Congratulations from world leaders have been pouring in since yesterday, including from US President Donald Trump.

"It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope. What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our Country," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Before his election as pontiff, Prevost appeared to publicly criticize the Trump administration and US Vice President JD Vance over its immigration policies.
