May 20 marked the first anniversary of Lai Ching-te's tenure as the leader of China's Taiwan region. Over the past few days, protesters took to the streets of Taipei, Taichung and other cities on the island, voicing anger over what they see as poor governance and ineffective policymaking by the Taiwan authorities.
CGTN Stringer spoke to residents in Taipei to get their opinion on Lai's performance. A woman surnamed Deng said that the "green terror" in Taiwan has harmed the interests of locals and restricted their freedom of speech. Meanwhile, a man surnamed Li believes that Lai Ching-te wants one-Party dominance, which means purging all dissenting voices.
