Hundreds of thrill-seekers descended on Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire on Monday (May 26) for the annual cheese rolling contest, a traditional British competition where participants hurl themselves down a 180-metre hill to chase a cheese wheel.
A series of races kicked off at noon, featuring daring competitors hurling themselves down a steep 180-meter hill with a 26.6-degree incline in pursuit of a four kilogram wheel of Double Gloucester cheese.
The winner is the first to cross the finish line at the bottom - lined with stewards, as catching the cheese itself is nearly impossible given its head start.
The event, which dates back to the 19th century, saw German Youtube Tom Kopke emerge the overall winner for the second year in a row.
The final men's downhill race was won by 33-year-old New Zealander, Byron Smith who placed second last year.
The race is notorious for its high risk of injury, with participants suffering a range of harm including broken limps and concussions.
Despite these dangers, organisers maintain that no fatalities have ever been recorded, and all competitors are required to acknowledge that they take part at their own risk.
The first written evidence of the event dates back to 1826, but the tradition was established long before, some suggest perhaps as a pagan ritual.
