Vicki Lindsay and Emma Webber have come together to campaign for stronger victims' rights, as ITV News' Ben Chapman reports
Two women whose loved ones were killed by paranoid schizophrenics have demanded more rights for victims over fears they will be excluded from decisions concerning offenders.
Emma Webber, whose son Barnaby was killed in Nottingham in 2023, and Vicki Lindsay, whose step-father Lewis Stone was killed in Mid Wales in 2019, are calling for the Victims and Courts Bill to be strengthened.
As the bill stands, victims will have no statutory rights to be told about decisions affecting the detention, leave, or discharge of mentally disordered offenders unless the authorities ‘consider it appropriate’.
The two have come together after Mr Stone's killer, David Fleet, was granted permission to leave hospital earlier this year; a decision Vicki and her family were not told about.
Speaking to ITV News, Vicki said: "It's been six years of hell for the whole family."
