Our congressional delegation knows exactly where the city of Las Vegas stands on these issues, and they're busy doing their job as well. But if it passes, I think we're gonna be in for some financial blows and as you well know the state doesn't have money to make up the shortfall and the city certainly doesn't have money at this time to make up the shortfall so there are concerns about it, waiting to see what the final to result this."

STORYLINE:

People in Khan Younis, in Southern Gaza, were mourning the dead after Israeli airstrikes and shootings killed around 44 people on Tuesday, according to Nasser Hospital.

The dead included 37 killed in strikes and 7 who were near aid sites in Khan Younis.

There were at least eight women and six children among the killed on Tuesday, officials said.

Those deaths came a day after witnesses and health officials said 30 Palestinians were killed in a strike on a seaside cafe in Gaza City.

Um Seif Abu Leda, lost her son who was sleeping in a tent, in the Israeli airstrike.

"Two missiles, two helicopter missiles on a tent? They were asleep, by God they were asleep, with his son in his arms, here he is in his arms, a child, his intestines cut out, do you see?"

Dozens were wounded in Tuesday's attacks.

Next week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to travel to Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and other administration officials.

Trump has signaled he is ready for Israel and Hamas to wind down the war in Gaza, which is likely to be a focus of their talks.

Speaking to a meeting of his Cabinet on Tuesday, Netanyahu did not elaborate on plans for the visit, except to say he will discuss a trade deal.

Iran, following the 12-day war with Israel, is also expected to be a main topic of discussion.

After brokering a ceasefire between those two countries, Trump has indicated that he’s turning his attention to ending the fighting between Israel and Hamas.

That war has killed more than 56,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants but says more than half of the dead were women and children.

The Hamas attack in October 2023 that sparked the war killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and resulted in 251 others being taken hostage. Some 50 hostages remain, many of them thought to be dead.

STORYLINE:

Striking city workers waved signs at traffic circling Philadelphia City Hall and joined picket lines outside libraries, city offices and other workplaces as nearly 10,000 blue-collar workers walked off the job Tuesday in search of better pay and benefits.

District Council 33 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees announced the strike on its Facebook page early Tuesday, saying “HOLD THE LINES.”

Mayor Cherelle Parker said the city would suspend residential trash collection, close some city pools and shorten recreation center hours, but vowed to keep the city running.

Police and firefighters are not on strike, but the DC33 membership includes 911 dispatchers, trash collectors, water department workers and many others.

Dhafir Gerald, 48, a library security guard who said he loves the city because it gave him a second chance after a long-ago incarceration was among workers rallying outside the library.

"The cost of living here in the city of Philadelphia has gone up and we have to be paid the wages to reflect the changes of what's going on in everyday life.” said Gerald, who makes about $46,000 a year after six years, the first few with the sanitation department.

Parker, a pro-labor Democrat, promised that Fourth of July celebrations in the nation’s birthplace would go on as usual.

District Council 33 is the largest of four major unions representing city workers.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Friday that it is terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians on Aug. 3. The termination will be effective on Sept. 2.

The announcement hit hard for Sun-G, a barber in Springfield, Ohio, who is also on TPS and asked to be identified only by his nickname because he fears deportation.

Ante el aumento de los precios de renta en Estados Unidos y un déficit de unas 7 millones de viviendas,  empresas y gobiernos estatales recurren a modelos tridimensionales, e incluso a la construcción de casas en fábricas.

 

Eric Schaefer, de la constructora Fading West, en el estado de Colorado, explico que en su empresa se fabrican las llamadas casas modulares, estructuras con módulos estandarizados que son ensamblados.

 

Las casas que construye su empresa se ensamblan en un gran almacén con técnicas tomadas de la industria automovilística. Las unidades pasan por estaciones en las que se añaden distintas piezas, lo que aumenta la eficiencia.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Tuesday that “all legislative tools and options are on the table” as Democrats strategize to prevent Republicans from giving final passage to Trump’s big tax and spending cuts bill.

Jeffries said Democratic leadership would meet Tuesday evening, followed by a full caucus meeting at 6 p.m. He added that he expects all members to be at the Capitol this week.

He used especially forceful language after the bill passed the House, saying “this disgusting abomination will set in motion a potential economic death spiral.”

To delay final passage past Trump’s self-imposed July 4th deadline, Jeffries did not rule out invoking a “magic minute,” a rarely used tool allowing unlimited speaking time for leaders after debate has officially ended.

Senate Republicans hauled Trump’s big tax breaks and spending cuts bill to passage Tuesday by the narrowest of margins, pushing past opposition from Democrats and their own GOP ranks after a turbulent overnight session.

The outcome capped an unusually tense weekend of work at the Capitol, the president’s signature legislative priority teetering on the edge of approval or collapse. In the end that tally was 50-50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.

La temperatura promedio a nivel nacional de España para junio fue de 23,6 ºC, 8 ºC más caliente que el junio más caluroso anterior en 2017. También fue la primera vez que junio fue más caluroso que las temperaturas promedio de julio y agosto.

España tuvo un nuevo récord para junio establecido el sábado cuando se registraron 46 ºC en la provincia sureña de Huelva desde que comenzaron los registros nacionales en 1950.

Barcelona registró su mes de junio más caluroso desde que comenzaron los registros hace más de un siglo, según informó el martes la agencia meteorológica nacional de España, mientras Europa seguía bajo la primera gran ola de calor este verano.

El Observatorio de Can Fabra reportó una temperatura promedio de 26 grados Celsius, la más alta documentada desde 1914. El promedio más caluroso anterior para junio fue de 25,6 ºC en 2003. La misma estación meteorológica indicó que se registró un máximo de 37,9 ºC en un solo día de junio, el lunes.

El equipo nacional de voleibol femenino de Cuba no podrá participar en un torneo clasificatorio en Puerto Rico debido a que Estados Unidos denegó su solicitud de visa.

Esta es la primera consecuencia de la inclusión de Cuba en una lista de 12 países con restricciones a la entrega de documentación para ingresar a Estados Unidos o sus territorios dispuesta por la administración del presidente Donald Trump que entró en vigor a comienzos de junio y se aplica a nacionales de Afganistán, República del Congo, Irán y Venezuela, entre otras naciones.

La Federación de Voleibol cubano informó el pasado jueves que los permisos rechazados contemplaban al equipo compuesto por 12 atletas, un árbitro y varios entrenadores, por lo que no podrán asistir al torneo a realizarse en Puerto Rico del 16 al 21 de julio.

El torneo llamado “Final Four”, de la Confederación de Norteamérica, Centroamérica y el Caribe de Voleibol, forma parte de la ruta de clasificación para los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de Santo Domingo 2026 y para los mundiales de la disciplina.

The founder of a Detroit electric vehicle charging hardware company said President Donald Trump’s big tax breaks and spending cuts bill that passed the Senate Tuesday takes away some of the tools American companies need to compete against their Chinese counterparts.

“Right now, China is driving (the EV) train. And many in the U.S. are on that train -- many U.S. companies,” said Q Johnson, of Plug Zen. “And if they're not given the tools to compete, they're going to be left by China. And that's a scary reality.”

The Senate passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” with Vice President JD Vance breaking a 50-50 tie for Republicans. The bill goes back to the House.

The legislation proposes a dramatic rollback of the Biden-era green energy tax breaks for electric vehicles.
