The “Mayhem” musician tops the 2025 the MTV Video Music Award nominations, ending Taylor Swift's two-year run in the top spot.

Gaga is up for best collaboration, pop, direction, art direction, cinematography, editing, choreography, visual effects as well as song, video, album and artist of the year.

Rounding out the artist of the year category nominees announced Tuesday are Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Morgan Wallen and The Weeknd as well as Beyoncé and Swift. The latter two are especially noteworthy because the two pop powerhouses are tied for the title of most career total VMAs. Each have 30.

Beyoncé and Swift are only nominated in the artist of the year category at September's VMAs, so if one of them wins, they will become the most-awarded musician in VMA history.

Gaga is followed closely by Bruno Mars, with 11 nominations. Lamar has 10. Sabrina Carpenter and first-time nominee Blackpink’s ROSÉ are tied with eight; as are Ariana Grande and The Weeknd with seven. Billie Eilish has six. Charli xcx has five.

Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus and Tate McRae boast four each.

The top prize of the night, video of the year, sees Gaga and Mars’ “Die With A Smile” go up against Grande’s “Brighter Days Ahead,” Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” ROSÉ and Mars’ “APT.”, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild,” and The Weeknd, and Playboi Carti’s “Timeless.”

STORYLINE:

Spain is experiencing its worst heatwave of the summer so far this week, with temperatures that could exceed 42 C (107 F), according to the Spanish Meteorological Agency, which has issued alerts for more than 30 provinces across the country.

One of the regions most affected through Sunday will be Andalusia, particularly Córdoba, where a high temperature warning has been issued for Tuesday.

The city of Córdoba is facing one of the most intense days of this second summer heatwave on Tuesday.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated an orange alert level for high temperatures that could reach up to 42 C in several areas of the Guadalquivir Valley, especially between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

AEMET forecasts that the heatwave will last at least until Sunday, August 10, although it may be extended beyond that.

Córdoba is among the most affected provinces by the scorching heat, along with others in southern Spain such as Seville, Jaén, and Badajoz.

Hundreds of Palestinians scrambled to collect aid packages dropped from cargo planes over the central Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

After the aid parcels landed in an open areas in the central district of Deir al-Balah, men of different ages raced to open the boxes filled with food products such as pasta, tea and salt.

Fist fights broke out as people tried to get as much as they could and gunshots were heard.

"These parachutes are a disaster," said Deir-al-Balah resident Mahmoud Abu Jarad, who only managed to secure a kilogram of salt and a packet of tea from Tuesday's drop.

"Human life cannot tolerate this. We are fighting and, as you can see, it is crowded and people have to fight with knives and shooting just to get simple stuff."

After the initial crush died down, children picked over the dusty ground for stray grains of rice and pieces of dried pasta.

Over the past week, cargo planes from several countries have been carrying out airdrops over different parts of the Gaza Strip, including areas that had been ordered evacuated earlier.

Pallets of aid were parachuted over Gaza, as seen from Deir al-Balah on Tuesday.

Israel's blockade and military offensive have made it nearly impossible to safely deliver aid, contributing to the territory's slide toward famine nearly 22 months into the war with Hamas.

Aid groups say Israel's week-old measures to allow more aid in are far from sufficient.

As international alarm has mounted, several countries have airdropped aid over Gaza.

The UN and aid groups call such drops costly and dangerous for residents, and say they deliver far less aid than trucks.

Many food parcels dropped by air have splashed into the Mediterranean Sea or landed in so-called red zones from which Israel's military has ordered people to evacuate.

In either case, Palestinians risk their lives to get flour and other basic goods.

Hamas-led militants killed around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducted 251 in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack that ignited the war.

They still hold 50 hostages, around 20 of them believed to be alive, after most of the rest were released in ceasefires or other deals.

Israel’s retaliatory military offensive has killed more than 60,900 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

The ministry, which doesn’t distinguish between civilians and combatants in its count but says around half the dead have been women and children, is staffed by medical professionals.

The UN and other independent experts view its figures as the most reliable casualty count.

Israel has disputed the figures but hasn’t provided its own.
