"Twenty one countries fully restricted Brazilian chicken meat imports. It’s a small percentage. Obviously, there are big buyers in this small percentage: China, Mexico, and the European Union. STORYLINE:
Brazil on Wednesday confirmed a new case of bird flu had been discovered at a zoo in the country's capital.
Speaking to reporters Agriculture Minister, Carlos Fávaro, said the case was the 169 reported in Brazil over the past two years.
As there had been no contamination of animals used for commercial purposes, he said no extra restrictions were being put in place on poultry exports.
The case is the third confirmed case of bird flu in Brazil in 2025, following earlier detections at a commercial poultry farm and a zoo in the south of the country.
Brazil, one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of poultry, confirmed in early May the country’s first bird flu outbreak on a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul state.
As a result many nations including China and the European Union had halted poultry imports from Brazil.
Fávaro said that the 28-day observation window will end in 14 days, and the country can regain its disease-free status if there are no cases found in commercial farms.
