    STORYLINE:
An ambitious Brazilian urban fruit tree planting project within a green corridor around Niteroi's Piratininga Lagoon is beginning to bear fruit.
Since April about 1,000 trees and seedlings have been planted in the Niteroi City Hall-led project that expects to plant 5,000 fruit-bearing and native trees over the coming months.
“The great benefit we have here, besides the environmental aspect, is being able to rescue fruits that are no longer commercially viable, they are jewels of our Atlantic Forest that have been lost over time due to the growth of cities," explained Niteroi city hall's biologist Alexandre de Moraes.
Some trees are already showing signs of blossoms and fruit in Brazil's autumn sunshine.
The project spans an 11-kilometer (6.8 mile) corridor and species being planted include java plum, genipap, Brazilian cherry, Surinam cherry, mulberry, strawberry guava, uvaia, wild cherry, cashew tree and white pepper.
The massive public orchard will allow residents of Rio’s sister city of Niteroi to pick fresh fruit straight from the trees.

    STORYLINE:
The San Francisco Giants have a new fan club, and it's not your average cheering section.
Introducing the "Hoo Lee Gans," a vibrant group of fans united by their admiration for center fielder Jung Hoo Lee.
More than 100 members of the fan club showed up at the team's Korean Heritage Night.
Jung Hoo Lee, affectionately known as the "Grandson of the Wind" in homage to his father, the legendary Korean shortstop Jong Beom Lee, has been making waves this season in the MLB.
After a stellar career in the KBO, where he was a five-time Gold Glove winner and the 2022 MVP, Lee joined the Giants on a six-year, $113 million deal.
After a devastating injury shortened his first season with the Giants, Lee has been a standout performer so far in his second season in 2025.
He's sitting in the top 20 in the league in several offensive categories including hits, batting average and on-base percentage.
Members of the Hoo Lee Gans gather together in the same section at Oracle Park, donning Lee's jerseys and flaming orange wigs, all in the name of supporting their favorite player and promoting Korean culture.

    2. Pull-out of Palestinian flag to protesters
    3. SOUNDBITE (English) State Senator Jennifer Boysko, (D) Virginia:
“As a state senator and as an American citizen, I take our constitutional rights and our well-being of all people very seriously. This case has ignited a broader debate about immigration reform, academic freedom, and the right to political expression. Legal experts have said that the government's reliance on guilt by association and social media activity to justify arrests and deportations sets a very dangerous precedent, and I agree.”
    4. Mid of protesters
    5. SOUNDBITE (English) State Senator Jennifer Boysko, (D) Virginia:
“This presidential administration is ignoring due process and it is unconstitutional. Many people have been deported and sent away to dangerous prisons with zero evidence of malfeasance. This is a violation of our U.S. Constitution and it frankly un-American.”
    6. Protesters holding signs
    7. SOUNDBITE (English) Julius “JD” Spain, Arlington Country Board:
“I would hope that my presence alone, being here with you in this moment, as Dr. Suri, as the Senator just talked about, has been unjustly, in my opinion, taken away from us and detained. And as a person who once led a civil rights organization, I will tell you that, you know at my tender age of 52 years old, and growing up in the south, it brings me great concern of what's going on in our nation today. And so, yeah, I'm happy that who's here is here, but this plaza should be packed. It should be packed. In America, in Northern Virginia, I ask that you wake up and look at what's going on our backyards.”
    8. Protest sign reading (English) "Free Badar now"
    9. Protest sign reading (English) "Speaking About Palestine Is Not A Crime"
    10. Mid of protesters outside courthouse

    STORYLINE:
A federal judge said that a Georgetown scholar’s petition challenging the constitutionality of his arrest will stay in a Virginia court, where it was initially filed.

The judge denied the Trump administration’s request to move the case to Texas.

Badar Khan Suri was arrested in Virginia in March and accused of “spreading Hamas propaganda.”

Outside the Albert V. Bryan United States Courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday, protesters gathered in support of Suri.

Democratic Virginia State Senator Jennifer Boysko said at the protest that the Trump administration is ignoring due process.

“This presidential administration is ignoring due process and it is unconstitutional. Many people have been deported and sent away to dangerous prisons with zero evidence of malfeasance. This is a violation of our U.S. Constitution and it frankly un-American,” Boysko said.

And Julius “JD” Spain, from the Arlington County board said that he’s asking America and Northern Virginia specifically to look at what’s happening “in our own backyards.”

“As a person who once led a civil rights organization, I will tell you that, you know at my tender age of 52 years old, and growing up in the south, it brings me great concern of what's going on in our nation today,” Spain said.

  • House Democrats say Congress would have to approve Trump's acceptance of free Air Force One
    (14 May 2025)
    RESTRICTION SUMMARY:
    ASSOCIATED PRESS
    Washington DC - 14 May 2025
    1. Cutaway of House Democratic leaders walking out for press conference
    2. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Ted Lieu, Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus:
"I just want to talk about now the Qatari luxury palace in the sky gift to Donald Trump. There is no such thing as a free palace in the sky. What do foreign countries want when they gift massive amounts of money and other gifts to the president? Donald Trump should reject this gift of luxury palace in the sky Boeing 747 completely and righteously, because we are the United States of America. We don't need gifts from foreign countries. We can build our own very impressive Air Force One. We don't need to fly a Qatari plane around as our Air Force One. That's also un-American."

    3. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Ted Lieu, Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus:
"And again, people need to ask, why is it one country trying to give this massive gift to Donald Trump. And think about a precedent it would set. Would it be okay if Brunei gifted a luxury 757 to J.D. Vance for Air Force Two? Would it be okay if Germany gave a Porsche SUV to Senator Thune as his official car? Would it be okay if Italy gave a bunch of expensive Armani suits to Speaker Johnson for his official duties? No, it wouldn't be okay. Also, because the Constitution says you can't do this, it requires congressional approval for the president to accept a gift of this size. And we urge Republicans in Congress to stand up, speak out, and call for a vote, if Donald Trump were to accept this, essential bribe, from a foreign government."

    4. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Pete Aguilar, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus:
"Republicans have laid out exactly who they are fighting for. After weeks of promises that they wouldn't cut Medicaid, their budget contains drastic cuts that will throw millions off of health insurance. After campaigning on helping working class Americans get ahead, their budget once again rewards billionaires and wealthy corporations and makes it harder for families to make ends meet."

    5. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Pete Aguilar, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus:
"The Republican budget doesn't address the cost of living crisis, it makes it worse. The cost of groceries, clothing and everyday necessities are still too high, and Republicans want to add to that and make health care more expensive on top of it. This isn't about helping people find good paying jobs or a shot at a better life. This is simply about helping people like Elon Musk pay less in taxes. House Democrats believe that we can shore up these basic needs programs and help everyday Americans reach their full potential."

    6. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Pete Aguilar, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus:
"It's long past time that the wealthiest of Americans pay their fair share, and we make it easier for working families to afford basic needs like health care and housing. These devastating cuts will make Americans, particularly children, sicker, hungrier and poorer. They're shortchanging the future just so their friends can continue to get richer. The American people cannot afford the Republican budget, and House Democrats are using every tool at our disposal to stop it."

    STORYLINE:
