    Andrew Cuomo is “landlords’ favorite candidate,” his lefty opponents in the New York City mayoral race and tenant advocates claimed Friday — while ripping the ex-governor over his housing record.
    The slate of Democratic primary candidates endorsed by the left-wing Working Families Party and advocates held a joint rally outside City Hall to shed light on what they said were Cuomo’s shady housing policies while in office.
    “We’re here today because your landlord’s favorite mayoral candidate is once again trying to position himself as a leader of our city,” said Joanne Grell, co-chair of the Freeze the Rent campaign.
    Another group, the NYS Tenant Bloc, harped that when Cuomo sat in the Executive Chamber, rents increased 33% in the state, while homelessness skyrocketed 50% in the city, according to a census data report from 2021.
    Reports released by the non-profit organization also called out the thrice-elected governor for extending loopholes in city rent laws in 2011 and 2015, which the group said resulted in tens of thousands of apartments losing their rent control status.

    Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen claimed Friday the El Salvador government set up his incongruous photo op with accused MS-13 soldier Kilmar Abrego Garcia by planting glasses of margarita cocktails in front of the pair when they met at Van Hollen’s hotel the day before.
    Van Hollen (D-Md.) — who touched down at Dulles International Airport following his three-day trip to the Central American country to try to win Abrego Garcia’s release — told reporters a Salvadoran official passed them the drinks to make it seem like the deported migrant was living in luxury rather than fearing for his life in a gang prison.
    “They made a little mistake,” said Van Hollen, who insisted neither he nor Abrego Garcia indulged during their chat. “If you sip out of one of those glasses, some of whatever it was, salt or sugar, would disappear.
    “You would see a gap. There’s no gap. Nobody drank any margaritas for sugar water or whatever it is.”
    El Salvadorian President Nayib Bukele, who has been working with the Trump administration by accepting suspected gang members to the notorious CECOT megaprison, mocked the Van Hollen visit on X.
    “Kilmar Abrego Garcia, miraculously risen from the ‘death camps’ & ‘torture’, now sipping margaritas with Sen. Van Hollen in the tropical paradise of El Salvador,” Bukele wrote Thursday.

    Purported MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whose deportation from Maryland to El Salvador has become a cause celebre among liberals and Democrats, is no longer being housed in the Central American country’s notorious CECOT megaprison, Sen. Chris Van Hollen told reporters Friday.
    “He told me, and this was yesterday, that eight days ago — so I guess nine days ago from today — he was moved to another detention center in Santa Ana, where the conditions are better,” the Maryland Democrat told reporters at Dulles Airport in northern Virginia upon his return from a three-day trip to El Salvador highlighted by a meeting with Abrego Garcia.
    According to Van Hollen, Abrego Garcia told him that “despite the better conditions, he still has no access to any news from the outside world and no ability to communicate with anybody in the outside world.”

    It came after El Salvador President Nayib Bukele on Thursday shared snaps of the senator lounging with Abrego Garcia — who was wrongly deported to El Salvador’s notorious megaprison last month — as his high-profile deportation battle rages on.
    The White House also took aim at Van Hollen over the visit.
    “Chris Van Hollen has firmly established Democrats as the party whose top priority is the welfare of an illegal alien MS-13 terrorist,” the White House said in a statement to The Post.
