Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are scouring scrubland and abandoned buildings in a new search near where she was last seen in Portugal.

Investigators are focusing on an area between Praia da Luz, the holiday resort from where she disappeared 18 years ago, and one of the houses where suspect Christian Brueckner lived at the time she went missing.

Arnold Schwarzenegger told environmentalists critical of Donald Trump’s administration: “Stop whining and get to work.”

The former Republican governor of California's call came after Energy Secretary Chris Wright said he canceled nearly $4 billion in project grants, in another massive blow to clean energy and greenhouse gas emissions reduction efforts in the U.S. under the 47th president's administration.

Speaking at the Austrian World Summit in Vienna on Tuesday (3 June), an event he helps organize, Mr Schwarzenegger said he keeps hearing people ask, “What is the point of fighting for a clean environment when the government of the United States says climate change is a hoax and coal and oil is the future?”

To that he responds: "You can’t just sit around and make excuses because one guy in a very nice White House on Pennsylvania Avenue doesn’t agree with you."

Rachel Reeves is set to tear up Treasury rules as she announces billions of pounds of investment in public transport in the North and Midlands.

The £15.6 billion package for mayoral authorities is expected to include funding to extend the metros in Tyne and Wear, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, along with a renewed tram network in South Yorkshire and a new mass transit systems in West Yorkshire.

Announcing the investment in a speech in Manchester on Wednesday, the Chancellor will argue that Britain “cannot rely on a handful of places forging ahead of the rest of the country” and champion a “new economic model – driven by investment in all parts of the country”.

This is the moment a police officer pins a 15-year-old boy to the floor and tells him to “stop screaming like a little b****” in shocking body warn camera footage.

In footage released on Tuesday (3 June) by Dorset Police, PC Lorne Castle can be seen tackling the teenager to the ground before grabbing his face and throat whilst swearing at him.

The boy, who was being arrested on suspicion of assault in January 2024, can be heard crying “What have I done?” whilst PC Castle shouts: “Stop resisting or I’m gonna smash you.”

The officer was later dismissed from the force after it was found he “behaved aggressively and used unreasonable force”.

PC Castle later admitted he was too aggressive in his language.

The force took decided to release footage of the incident to the public to “challenge misinformation”.

Singer Jessie J has revealed she has been diagnosed with early breast cancer and will undergo surgery this summer.

The 37-year-old announced her diagnosis in a video message to fans, posted to Instagram late on Tuesday (3 June),

The mother-of-one candidly shared her health update, noting the irony of the timing.

“To get diagnosed with this, as I’m putting out a song called ‘No Secrets’ right before a song called ‘Living My Best Life,’ which was all pre-planned before I found out about this. I mean, you can’t make it up,” she said.

The Grammy nominee confirmed she "will disappear for a bit" after performing at the Summertime Ball in London on 15 June.

An artificial intelligence-driven legged robot has been trained to play badminton against human opponents with impressive agility.

It has been developed by a Swiss-led team at ETH Zurich, who used reinforcement learning — a type of AI that improves decision-making by learning from repeated attempts.

The robot can follow the shuttlecock and hit it precisely in fast-paced games.

It accurately predicts shuttlecock trajectories, navigates the game area, and competes with human players.

Researcher Yuntao Ma believes it showcases AI’s potential to drive legged robots in complex tasks, which could pave the way for future advancements in autonomous, intelligent systems, including humanoids.

Three British nationals accused of smuggling more than two pounds of cocaine into Indonesia are facing the death penalty under the country’s strict drug laws.

Jonathan Christopher Collyer, 28, and Lisa Ellen Stocker, 29, were arrested on 1 February after customs officers found suspicious items, disguised as food packages, in their luggage, according to prosecutor I Made Dipa Umbara.

On Tuesday, Mr Umbara told the district court in Denpasar, Bali, that a lab test result confirmed that 10 sachets of Angel Delight powdered dessert mix in Collyer’s luggage, combined with seven similar sachets in his partner’s suitcase, contained 993.56 grams (2.19 pounds) of cocaine.

The drugs were worth an estimated 6 billion rupiah (£272,212), Mr Umbara said.

Two days later, authorities arrested Phineas Ambrose Float, 31, after a controlled delivery set up by police in which the other two suspects allegedly handed the drug to him in the parking area of a hotel in Denpasar. He is being tried separately.

The drugs were brought from England to Indonesia with a transit in the Doha international airport in Qatar, Umbara said.

After the charges against the group of three were read on Tuesday, the panel of three judges adjourned the trial until 10 June, when the court will hear witness testimony.
