Tourists were forced to evacuate Grindavík, Iceland, due to a volcanic eruption in Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula the morning of July 16th 2025.
The Icelandic Police Commissioner raised the Civil Protection Emergency Level, and authorities were forced to evacuate tourists from the popular Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, as well as a campsite in the town of Grindavik, as a safety precaution.
The eruption began at 4 am and caused lava to flow southeast from a crack in the earth that is 700 to 1,00 meters wide.
However, the Met Office confirmed the molten rock is not threatening any infrastructure.
