The US could impose crippling secondary sanctions on Russia if the three-year-old war it has been waging against Ukraine is not brought to an end by 2 September, president Donald Trump has said.

Speaking in the Oval Office on Monday alongside Nato secretary-general Mark Rutte, Mr Trump said he’s “very unhappy” with Russia and its president Vladimir Putin, and pledged to impose what he described as “very severe tariffs” on Moscow “if we don’t have a deal in 50 days.”

Just before Reece James went to lift the Club World Cup trophy, the Chelsea captain politely told Donald Trump that they were likely about to leap around in celebration so he might want to move.

A remarkable sentence in itself. The US president, according to sources in the middle of this, very much gave the impression he was loving it and wanted to stay. You can see the images for yourself.

There’s certainly something incongruous about the player of the tournament, Cole Palmer, looking confused beside one of the world’s most powerful leaders in this moment of triumph.

That kind of scene is no longer new, of course, but it does look like it’s becoming normalised in this authoritarian-leaning political era.

After news that Vice President JD Vance had a family visit planned to Disneyland, hundreds of people turned out to protest his trip to the Happiest Place on Earth while Trump administration’s immigration policies result in ICE raids across Los Angeles.

“No family vacation while we deal with family separation,” read one protester sign, adorned with Vance’s face.

Gregg Wallace has said he is “deeply sorry for any distress” caused after a MasterChef report substantiated 45 allegations against him.

Hours before the findings of the investigation were revealed on Monday (14 July), the host, who has been dropped by the BBC, said that he “never set out to harm or humiliate” anyone with his behaviour.

“For eight months, my family and I have lived under a cloud,” Wallace, 60, told PA, hitting out at the BBC for “exposing” him to “trial by media fuelled by rumour and clickbait”.

Wallace said that “none of the serious allegations against” him were upheld and that he also “challenged the remaining issue of unwanted touching, but [has] had to accept a difference in perception”.

He continued: “A late autism diagnosis has helped me understand how I communicate and how I’m perceived. I’m still learning. [Production company] Banijay have given me great support and I thank them.”

More than half of the 83 allegations against Wallace were upheld, including one of unwelcome physical contact and several citing inappropriate sexual language and being in a state of undress.

Seventy-eight witnesses provided evidence.

The “vast majority (94 per cent)” of the 83 allegations were linked to behaviour that allegedly happened between 2005 and 2018. Only one was substantiated after that time period.

Wallace faced multiple accusations, including claims that he made inappropriate sexual jokes, asked for the phone numbers of female production staff, and behaved unprofessionally around female colleagues on set.
