Hundreds of people marched through Venice's central streets on Saturday in protest of billionaire Jeff Bezos’ wedding to Lauren Sánchez.

On Friday, the world’s fourth-richest man and his bride tied the knot in a private ceremony with around 200 celebrity guests on the secluded island of San Giorgio.

The wedding has divided Venice, with activists accusing Bezos of exploiting the city while ordinary residents contend with overtourism and the constant threat of climate-induced flooding.

Protesters from across Italy filled Venice's tiny streets with colourful banners reading “Kisses Yes, Bezos No.”

Tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ rights supporters are expected to converge on Budapest this Saturday, poised to defy a police ban on their annual Pride march.

The event has become a potent symbol of the escalating struggle between Hungary's nationalist government and its civil society, highlighting a decade of tightening restrictions on fundamental freedoms.

Under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Hungary has systematically curtailed the rights of its LGBTQ+ community.

A controversial law passed in March further empowered authorities to ban Pride events, ostensibly to "protect children" – a justification widely seen by critics as a pretext for a broader assault on democratic liberties.

The crackdown is unfolding ahead of a crucial general election next year, where Mr Orban faces a formidable opposition challenge.

Multiple European countries are bracing for a heatwave this weekend, with highs of 44C predicted as alerts have been issued.

In France, Greece, Spain and Portugal, locals and tourists alike have been trying to take shelter from the sweltering temperatures.

One tourist in Madrid, where temperatures were expected to reach 40C, told The Associated Press on Friday (27 June): “Yeah, it's gonna be very hot, so I think we try to avoid the sun as much as possible. We try to stay inside as much as possible and try to drink as much beer as possible. I think it's possibly the best option.”

In Portugal and Greece "severe" wildfire alerts have also been issued, with “very low humidity” and “strong winds” fuelling the blazes.

In Mallorca, a 34-year-old Dutch tourist died of heatstroke while hiking with friends in Camí de Son Sales.

On the eve of the peak summer season, one sad certainty is that some British travellers will be turned away from their holiday flights due to post-Brexit rules on passport validity. Sometimes airport staff will make a mistake but in the vast majority of cases the passenger will be at fault.

Thankfully renewals are taking around two weeks. So people who spot a problem now and who are holidaying from the second half of July onwards should be able to rescue the situation without resorting to the expensive and inconvenient fast-track route.

Donald Trump has said that he would “absolutely” consider bombing Iran again if Tehran is enriching uranium to "concerning" levels.

Taking questions at a White House press conference on Friday (27 June), the US president said he would attack the country “without question”, describing last week’s bombing of nuclear sites as “unbelievable”.

The US struck three nuclear facilities in Iran - Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan - on Sunday (22 June) with bunker bombs.

Centrifuges at the Fordo site are now “no longer operational”, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed on Thursday (26 June).

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the strikes had achieved nothing significant, but Trump doubled-down on his claims that the country's nuclear sites had been “obliterated”.
