After National Guard troops descended on a park in Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass called the move ‘outrageous and un-American.’

On Monday, MacArthur Park, located in a neighborhood where many residents are immigrants, was briefly filled with armored vehicles, officers on horses, and armed troops. Mayor Bass went to the park and told the person in charge to leave immediately. ‘What I saw in the park today looked like a city under siege, under armed occupation,’ she said.

The Department of Defense posted on X that the troops were sent to the mostly empty park, except for children, to ‘ensure the safety of federal agents,’ referring to the ICE agents there to do a ‘sweep’ of the area.
