Mike Check - Big Game Preview: Houston vs Texas Tech

No. 22 Houston heads to Lubbock to take on No. 13 Texas Tech in a ranked matchup that could have major implications in the Big 12 race. Houston has looked explosive through two games, averaging 55 points and 308 rushing yards per game, while Texas Tech enters as the defending Big 12 champion. Texas Tech has won seven straight in this series, including a 35-11 win last season, but Houston enters with the longest active road winning streak in the country. This should give us a much better idea of which team is a legitimate contender in the Big 12 this season.

Mike Check - Big Game Preview: Florida vs Auburn

Florida and Auburn both enter 2-0 as they meet at Jordan-Hare for their SEC opener and first matchup since 2019. Florida’s Aaron Philo has been sharp through two games, while Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown gets another shot at the Gators after helping USF upset them last season. Both programs are breaking in first-year head coaches, making this an early measuring-stick game for two teams trying to turn things around in 2026.

Mike Check - Big game Preview: Mississippi State vs South Carolina

Mississippi State heads to South Carolina with both teams undefeated at 2-0 and opening SEC play. The Bulldogs have been one of the biggest surprises early on, averaging 50 points per game behind breakout quarterback Kamario Taylor, while LaNorris Sellers leads a South Carolina offense averaging 51. Both teams have been explosive offensively, but this will be their first real test against SEC competition. With two dynamic quarterbacks and Mississippi State coming off an impressive road win at Minnesota, this could be one of the more interesting games of the weekend.

No. 16 SMU heads to Louisville for a ranked ACC matchup with both teams looking to make an early statement in the conference race. Kevin Jennings and the Mustangs bring an explosive passing attack, while Louisville counters with Lincoln Kienholz and an offense that has shown plenty of firepower of its own. SMU has had Louisville’s number recently, winning each of the last two meetings, including a 38-6 blowout last season. With two explosive offenses and a tight spread, this one has all the makings of a four-quarter battle.
