Mike Peterson from Bitcoin Beach joined me to discuss banking the unbanked in El Salvador. Mike has created a circular economy in 2 cities in El Salvador. Over 80 businesses accept bitcoin payments and they do over 1,000 tx per day in their local community!

In El Salvador, they are using the Lightning Network way beyond where its being used in most 1st world countries. You gotta listen to hear more about this!

Mike and I discussed how bitcoin is helping to rebuild the local community in El Zonte. The youth there are contributing to their communities instead of joining gangs. Mike has also seen families forming and talented individuals looking to stay in El Salvador because there is a feeling of hope.

We also talked about the remittance issue and how bitcoin is helping people do cross-border transactions seamlessly and with nearly zero fees.

Later on, during the Q+A section, we briefly touched on investing in the local real estate market and the tax environment in El Salvador.
