For this episode Mike is back in one of his favorite cities: London. On this trip to London, Mike found an amazing comic shop called Gosh! Comics, near the famous Piccadilly Circle in London’s West End. Most shops in the UK are fairly small in physical size, but However, Gosh! Comics was quite large in size, especially considering both floors of the shop. The main floor is largely dedicated to graphic novels (which they specialize in) and the basement level contains a large back issue stock.

Mike had the pleasure of interviewing Gregg, the co-manager specializing in Indy press books at Gosh! Comics, as you will be able to tell by his book recommendation. Now, there is another story to tell, but I will leave that until the next Pitstop episode, which is also connected to this store.

Described as an “Industrial-chic shop for comics and graphic novels, from mainstream to manga and cutting edge”, this is an awesome shop to visit, so be sure to check it out when you’re visiting London Town!

For this episode Mike finds himself in the beautiful city of Madison, WI and Westfield Comics, which happens to be where he had a subscription service back in the 80s! Tucked into a nice shopping plaza, Westfield Comics West is the physical retail version of the business, and fortunately, the manager Josh was more than happy to be interviewed. While the mail order side of the business is as robust as ever, no corners were cut in the shopping experience and customer service at the physical shop. This shop is as bright and airy as you’ll find, with a huge stock of comics, graphic novels, toys and apparel. From the website: Westfield Comics has been selling comic books through the mail since 1979 which, as a frame of reference, was the same year that Sony debuted the technologically astounding Walkman. They originally sold golden-age comic books but over time, began to have so many requests for new comics that their founder, Sherill Anthony, began selling current issues through the mail. This is a great shop to visit, folks, so be sure to check it out when you’re in the Madison, WI area!

While visiting relatives in the Kansas City, MO area, Mike naturally found time to seek out a comic shop. He struck gold when he met A to Z Comics owners Debby and Steve Welch and their grandson, Damon. A to Z Comics is located in Blue Springs, MO, just outside of Kansas City, and has been in business for over 35 years by Debby and Steve Welch. It has some of the most friendly and knowledgeable staff Mike has met, and it has a massive inventory that spans generations of pop culture. Mike had the pleasure of talking with Debby and Damon and hearing about the history of the shop. A family owned and operated business is always an added touch.
