Most runners will find themselves Injured at one point or another.  The difficult part Is trying to figure out when they can return to running safely. I take out a lot of the guesswork by applying a work capacity assessment to help you determine If your body Is ready for the beating that running provides for It. 
There are 5 tests that you will do In sequential order.  Rest between each set and go from there.

The term "runner's knee" Is a misnomer for those that run. Runner's typically do not have front of the knee pain due to running. The proper diagnosis for pain In the outside part of the knee Is Iliotibial band syndrome.

This podcast episode is all about knee osteoarthritis (OA) and "bone and bone" conditions in the knee and hip. Sometimes people get pigeon holed with the injury and an image (xray or MRI) when visiting our medical doctors. This means that just because an image says you are bone on bone it doesn't mean you should get ready for surgery.

All this means is that you need to try a "conservative" approach first. I give you a step by step approach on what you can do at home to help keep you off of the surgical table.

We discuss the most recent release from The US Department of Health and Human Services regarding our activity guidelines. The new guidelines, with their emphasis on the importance of movement to prevent disease and extend life no matter an individual's age, echo many perspectives long-championed by APTA and its members. The APTA (American Physical Therapy Association) is my professional association and the association for PT's in this country! 

The announcement of activity guidelines Is discussed In today's podcast. How much activity is needed? How long should you move? We discuss how much activity Is suggested for adults and the aging population.

Physicians often issue referrals to a specific physician based on a partnership or other relationship. Whether or not this Is ethical, can be debated. Based on one former patient's email to me, I just wanted to let as many people know that they have the power to choose who they want to go to for any and all services.

There are some limitations to choice. Some states require a physician's referral to obtain physical therapy services, however, Nevada is a direct access state for my services. The other limitation is with your insurance provider. If you would like your healthcare covered by your insurance you may be limited to who you are able to see.

However, there is always a choice in your healthcare. Maybe the best choice is paying cash for services from time to time.
