Before Mike came to Portland Rescue Mission, he was shocked at how difficult it was to survive while being homeless.  “I woke up one morning on the Burnside Bridge in the middle of January and couldn’t feel my toes. I’d been wearing the same clothes for three days and decided that I couldn’t do this no more.” Finding a job seemed impossible. Dealing drugs was the only occupation Mike had ever known since he was a teen. Bradley laughed at the dark irony. For the last 30 years, he justified his growing addiction with the shallow, comforting thought. “I might be an alcoholic. But no matter how bad it gets, I won’t be living in a tent or under a bridge.” But he was wrong.
