Bradley laughed at the dark irony. For the last 30 years, he justified his growing addiction with the shallow, comforting thought. “I might be an alcoholic. Walking out of the hotel with just a few dollars to his name, Bradley tried to push aside the shock of what had happened. Christian spent 7 hard months on the streets of Portland. Worn out from the summer heat and carrying his few belongings on his back, he’d often end the day sleeping on the rocky ground – afraid. Robin was married with her husband for 27 years. After her daughter was murdered in 2006, her marriage started to fall apart. In 2011, she was kicked out of her house and was forced to live on the streets. Thinking back on a dark time when she was cold, all alone, and had to find cardboard to keep warm, Robin remembers how finding Portland Rescue Mission turned her life around completely. Growing up in a labor camp with an abusive home life and without a father, John looked to the tough migrant men around him as role models. “I thought being a man was to be macho, to cuss, to steal, and to belittle women. You don’t care and never show your feelings.
