Interview attire is recommended if you have a professional wardrobe already. While there’s no one definition, it generally means doing away with ties and swapping suits for slacks, button-downs, and blazers. 🎙️ In this episode, we sit down with Tony Teravainen, the CEO and Co-founder of Support the Enlisted Project (STEP). As a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in San Diego, STEP was formed in October 2012 to assist young military and veteran families in financial crisis.

💸 To date, STEP has served over 6,300 military and veteran families through its Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) program, providing professional social work counseling and personalized financial planning to prevent the loss of basic necessities like homes, vehicles, water, electricity, and food. More than 90% of the families who complete the EFA program improve their financial well-being, and STEP has issued $2.1 million in financial assistance grants to stop the loss of basic needs.

🏆 In 2020, STEP expanded to Washington state to continue to serve even more military and veteran families. Tony, a former US Navy submariner, sees himself, his family, and his fellow service members in each person who enters STEP seeking assistance. Congratulations to STEP on its recent achievements, including being named Nonprofit of the Year at the San Diego Business Journal Citizenship Awards 2022, receiving the Hire Vets Medallion, and being recognized for Outstanding Community Service by Senator Brian Jones.
