In this special milestone episode of "From the Ashes," I celebrate over ten episodes by reflecting on the journey so far with my friend Rikio Inouye. Rikio and I have fun taking turns as the interviewer, diving into my experiences, challenges, and the profound lessons I've learned from the inspiring conversations featured on the podcast. We discuss the transformative power that the JET Program (Japanese Exchange & Teaching Program) had on both our lives, the importance of authenticity, and the continuous journey of personal evolution. We share heartwarming stories and formative experiences, such as my struggles with reverse culture shock after returning from Japan and the profound impact of the JET community on our lives. Tune in for an engaging and heartfelt episode that highlights the essence of the podcast and my mission to ignite hope and healing through every story.
Rikio Inouye is a Yonsei and a twin. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in International Relations at Princeton University, where he studies how race and religion shape foreign policy making and foreign policy support. He is a proud alumnus of the Japan Exchange Teaching (JET) Program and is committed to building community both within the Japanese American community at places like the Heart Mountain Pilgrimage, but also between the United States and Japan through his ongoing involvement in the JET program and in the US-Japan Council.
