Sunday, September 17, 2017. Always Reforming (Part 2). Ephesians 2:1-10. Pastor Bryant Anderson preaching. The first of the five “solas” of the Protestant Reformation is sola gratia, “grace alone.” Reformers adhered to the notion that we are saved by grace alone, opposing what they viewed to be a deep-seated reliance in the church upon works righteousness. Though the particulars of works righteousness have changed a great deal in the last 500 years, it remains a problem that we need to reckon with today.

Sunday, September 10, 2017. Always Reforming (Part 1). Jeremiah 20:7-9 | 1 Corinthians 1:17-24. Pastor Bryant Anderson preaching. Martin Luther set the Protestant Reformation in motion with his 95 Theses, and he ensured its progress when he said, "Here I stand," refusing to recant. While those words ring in our twenty-first-century ears as admirably defiant self-confidence, in reality they reflect a deep humility that is often overlooked and that we would do well today to recover.

Sunday, September 3, 2017. Women of the Bible (Part 8). Luke 1:26-38, 46-55. Pastor Bryant Anderson preaching. Mary is known to us as the mother of Jesus. But viewing her in this way runs the risk of reducing her to "just a mom," which she most certainly was not. It was no ordinary task to which God called her, and hers was no ordinary response.

Like many women in the stories of Scripture, we know very little about the women of the early church. Though they are not remembered by history, their contributions were critical to the work of God's kingdom - just like ours.

Women of the Bible (Part 5). James 1:22-25; Luke 10:38-42. Pastor Bryant Anderson preaching. Martha does all the hard work of hosting while her sister Mary sits at Jesus' feet and listens to him. Jesus says that Mary has made the better choice, but maybe there's something learn from both sisters in this story.

Women of the Bible (Part 3). Esther 2:1-4, 16-18; 7:1-6, 9-10; 9:20-22. Pastor Bryant Anderson preaching. Esther risks her life in order to save her people from annihilation. This act of courage is more than just praiseworthy self-sacrifice; it says something to us of what true courage is, and how our acts of courage can demonstrate the power and love of God to the watching world.

Women of the Bible (Part 2). Joshua 2:1-14. Pastor Bryant Anderson preaching. Rahab betrays the people of Jericho, but plays the hero for Israel. Christian faithfulness calls us to see in Rahab an example of the ways that God's work in our lives reorients our loyalties and allegiances.

Women of the Bible (Part 1). Ruth 1:1-18; 2:1-12. Pastor Bryant Anderson preaching. Ruth—now a household name in the Old Testament—is anything but ordinary. She is a widow and a foreigner. She does not belong. There is no reason at all for Israel to pay attention to her story. And yet in her life we see not only exemplary faithfulness, but also a picture of what God intends for all of God’s people.
