Renee’s advice is simple: give yourself grace, take your time, and make space to listen. You don’t have to have everything figured out to keep moving forward.

Renee served in both the Army Reserve and active duty for approximately 24 years. Reflecting on her military career, she shared that one of the greatest gifts it has given her is the opportunity to meet people and help them develop and grow.

She explained that the longer she served, the more opportunities she had to grow herself by stepping into new roles and finding new challenges. Along the way, her Army family continued to expand, creating lasting relationships and a strong sense of community.

Renee described her career as a “beautiful circle” of learning, doing, growing, and then pouring that knowledge back into others. Every new position brought additional experience, new perspectives, and the chance to connect with even more people.

Throughout her service, she witnessed a ripple effect from mentoring and supporting others. The knowledge, resources, and encouragement she shared continued to be passed on, allowing her impact to extend far beyond the individuals she worked with directly.

In this episode, Renee revisits one of the most defining moments of her life—the loss of her mother. While attending college and balancing classes, she had even seen her mother earlier that morning before she unexpectedly passed away. In an instant, life seemed to stand still.

During one of the darkest seasons of her life, Renee’s Army unit rallied around her, praying with her, offering unwavering support, and connecting her with resources to help her navigate her grief. Just as she was learning to carry that loss, the events of 9/11 unfolded. Faced with the devastating loss of her mother and watching her nation enter war, Renee found herself wondering, “What could be worse than this?”

As challenge after challenge confronts Renee, she continues to persevere through circumstances that would have broken many others.
