God’s voice will never be contrary to His character, and we know His character by knowing the scripture. If we show up consistently, we will learn to hear God’s voice – and when we hear God’s voice, He calls us to mature, to choose His will over our own, and to grow into a deeper relationship with Him.

If we want to hear the voice of God and to live in the deep, intimate relationship He longs to have with us, we must listen to Him with softened hearts that are eager to be molded, and engage with His written word so that the Spirit may turn our head-knowledge into heart-understanding.

The peace we find in hearing God’s voice comes from our relationship with Him. You may not physically hear a voice or find any answers when you ask Him questions, but if you know God and have a relationship with Him, His presence alone is enough to bring peace, security, and comfort.

Depression is a signal that there is something deep in your soul that needs tending to – and you cannot deal with the depths of your soul by only engaging it on the surface. Sometimes it requires lamentation, always complete honesty in prayer, and to worship God not from a place of understanding, but from a place of trust.

Depression is like a dark cave where our fears and self-loathing are magnified and God’s power to save us appears diminished. It is a place filled with lies that we tell ourselves and lies told to us by the enemy. We need community, as well as personal and sometimes difficult conversations with those we trust to speak truth into this place and to dispel the lies that blind and bind us.
