The weather is hot, the political conventions are
broadcasting twenty-four seven, and I am receiving over 50 texts and emails an hour. There are constant allegations about a lack of factual truth, disinformation, misinformation, and bold faced lies.
In a recent conversation with a long-time friend, we
discussed what life will be like for our children and how do we prepare them to live in a world bombarded second by second with a wild range of “facts as seen
by the moderator” and insisting that a total stranger interpret what we all
just heard and are apparently not capable of understanding it.
Over the past 25 years our world has moved from 24-7 news cycles, to artificial intelligence modifying texts, tweets, press releases and live interviews to persuade us to believe what they are selling. The challenge is how to prepare this generation of young people to be able to listen to millions of outside input
and discern the truth.
This week we discuss the need for families to return to old fashion values. We challenge families to have a meeting,
discuss your “life principles” and write down a statement of your family values. It is important to prepare young people to understand the global world
they will grow up in and reiterate the value of choices. We are the sum total of what we put in our
mind. This time in history is unlike any
before us, and the challenge is to prepare our young people to be leaders embracing truth and honesty in relationships. (8.24.24)
