Why do we spend so much time working?

Especially work that involves only one of our many possible expressions.

What will happen if we intentionally focused on spending more time with family/loved ones and our other expressions?

I think it could increase the overall quality of our life.

I remember the first time I got positive feedback from my CEO. I felt like dancing that afternoon and the rest of my day was made no matter what happened.

I felt a burst of creativity and my confidence was at an all-time high.

If feedback can have this effect on people, why are so many of us very defensive when feedback (especially negative feedback) is shared with us?

In this letter, I explore why people are defensive when receiving feedback and how we can improve our delivery of corrections to be more effective.

We use words daily. In different contexts and with different people.

In my 100 level as a student, I lived in a hostel called Angola.

I had a roommate who said words that I didn’t like. This words made me feel less of myself and influenced my drive to become more in life.

Sometimes, people are not able to turn it around positively.

More than 80% of my male friends have cheated on their partners before.

The common excuse that guys give for cheating is that men get sexually aroused easily and need to take care of that sexual tension.

That when they get intimate with a lady that's not their girlfriend, in most cases, it's just a one-off. They are not emotionally attached, so it shouldn't matter much.

Is this the case? Even if it is, does it give men a right to feel more entitled to cheating than women?

A previous non-dreader, I dreaded my hair this week.

And it made me reflect on how our opinions are transient. But how it’s still very hard for us to change them when we find new information.

The concept of true love is a truly interesting one. We are raised (most of us, I assume) on the ideology and information that there should be one true person out there for us. We pray for it. We filter interactions for it. We try to identify patterns for it.

Does it exist? What factors play a role in making it happen in our lives?

When most people pass a correction across, they often do it from a place of wanting to help the other person become better.

The challenge is that we sometimes expect people to always align with our worldview. We expect people to understand why we see something in a certain way and can get angry/confused when they don't see it that way. This then sometimes leads us to judgement or hypocrisy.

What is the middle line between these two extremities and how do we find it when sharing feedback/correction?
