"No one else can see you if you don't see yourself."
Pritesh Shah is an actor, director, writer, producer, and comedian. But that's not why I wanted him on Mind, Body, Legacy. I wanted him here because every time we talk, I leave the conversation looking at myself a little differently. So I started this one by stripping the titles away and asking him the only question that matters: when you take all of that off, who are you?
What follows is an open-hearted and honest conversation that will make you think. Pritesh opens up about the kid who used his words as a weapon because he didn't know he was fighting self-worth wounds, the apologies he sent years later, and the fifteen years of inner work it took to get to a place of stillness. We get into the difference between emotions and feelings, why most of what we react to has nothing to do with right now, and how to stop repeating the cycles our fathers handed us.
We go there on money, too. Why not all money is good money, why "expensive" is never just about your bank account, and what it looks like when the people who have it all end up crying on your couch. I share what it was like growing up around a father who is the king of "what's next," and why celebrating the small victories with my wife and kids is the whole point, not a distraction from it. Pritesh talks about being raised to believe 98% wasn't good enough, and what it took to reprogram himself to know he's worthy just sitting still.
And then we get to the hard part. The two years that broke him down. The relationship he stayed in because he couldn't stand not being chosen. The moment a line from a TV show made him take accountability for all of it. Why he looks in the mirror for twenty seconds every morning and every night, and what the man in the glass tells him. He closes it out with a poem that I guarantee will resonate.
This one's for the man chasing validation and calling it ambition. For the guy who's been told his whole life that he's only worth what he can provide. For anyone who has ever looked in the mirror and had a hard time holding their own gaze. If that's you, sit with this one.
Raw, reflective, and full of truth. This is Part 1 with my brother Pritesh Shah.
