Kellynn Wee discusses the impermenant yet enduring nature of TTRPG's, the role it can play in structuring and meaning-making in our lives, and her own meditative, nature-based, post-apocalyptic techno-future TTRPG called 'Move Quietly and Tend Things'.

Edgar Duborg and Valentin Thouzeau discuss why humans invent imaginary worlds. What makes us want to create, explore and elaborate upon them? We discuss everything from Stardew Valley to Lord of the Rings, and how this applies to the co-constructed worlds of TTRPGs.

Where and how do we draw a boundary between what we imagine, and what we are? Between the person we are at work and at home? And whether or not the characters we play are something alien, or just an extension of ourselves that we merely give permission to exist.

Dr. Marc Andersen discusses the nature of surprise, and why surprise is at the very heart of play (and most of human functioning). We also discuss why (some) humans like horror, and why horror itself can be pleasurable and valuable (and how we can incorporate horror into our TTRPG practice). Also, a brief discussion of cancer and death, whynot?

Dr. Kathryn Francis and Dr. Ethan Landes discuss the moral implications of playing D&D, and why we care about things that do not exist. We also discuss to what extent we should embrace the messiness of morality in absurd fantasy games, rather than clean, pure, solvable moral positions.

Dr. Thalia Goldstein discusses how theatre and improv - the finer arts - can inform how we understand ourselves in the context of a silly game of wizard, orcs, obvious-traps-we-shouldn't-touch-but-touch-anyway.

The Mind Games Podcast exists where insufferable D&D and TTRGP fandom intersects with psychological and anthropological research. No-one needed or asked for this podcast, and yet here it…
Mind Games is hosted by Dr. Rohan Kapitany and Dr. Kathryn Francis. Both experimental psychologists; the former a scholar of reality beliefs, imagination, pretend play, ritual, and religion, while the latter is a scholar of virtual reality, morality, judgement and decision making behavior.
