Finding that perfect balance between work and our personal lives can often be difficult, and for some, the natural response is to favour our professional lives over our loved ones.
In this episode, Jessen talks to Gordon Grant, the founder of Dads Mean Business, who talks about the value in remembering why we work so hard, how we can learn to help ourselves, as well as the many ways we can realign with what's important in life.
We can often find ourselves so wrapped up in what everyone else needs, that we forget to grant ourselves any kind of importance. We need to realign with our morals, our values, and our purpose. The mental health implications amongst working men is in need of urgent attention. Men and dads often feel like they are forced to provide, which can negatively impact their state of mind, and make them feel trapped.Asking for help needs to be normalised. If you're struggling, even at the smallest challenges, then vocalise it. You'll be surprised at how many others are in the same boat.If you're using work to escape from anything, then communication is at the root of that problem in general. We may need to stop, reflect, and try to fix this communication issue.'I'm more of a geek than a nerd, because nerds don't get girlfriends'
'Externally, dads need to look like they've got it together'
'It's okay not to be okay'
'Most of us are hardwired to help other people'

Gordon has over 20 years experience of building and selling businesses. He built a global software business that had had some of the world's most famous brands as clients and employees on 3 continents. From the outside it looked as though he was living the perfect life, but one day he looked in the mirror and didn't recognise himself any more.
