Tim and Jack go way back and reminisce about the old days, about how they both learned how to play in a band and playing underage in the bars. We do a deep dive into how Tim became a four-time JUNO Award nominee, CCMA Award winner with three PLATINUM selling singles, nine GOLD singles, one GOLD album, two #1 singles and eighteen Top 10 radio hits. The stories were so good, we had to make two episodes! Stay tuned for Minds of Musicians with Tim Hicks (part two) airing Tuesday September 14th!

We are excited to have Tim on Minds of Musicians to chat about where and how he got started as a musician (spoiler, it was on an organ playing church music!)

In this episode, we chat with guitar player turned drummer, Steve Obrien. Steve is a well known musician in the Niagara area. He started out at the age of eight taking guitar lessons at Rysons Music, and in his twenties, fell in love with the drums and decided to dedicate this passion of music to kit. Since then, he has dove into the world of jazz, and believes that if you work really hard and commit yourself to your craft, you can achieve great musicianship.
Steve talks about his influences as a drummer, his love of latin beats and what has changed in the music scene over the years. We also dive into what the future of the industry will possibly look like after over a year of live music being put on hold due to covid.
Steve is currently working on a project called the Parkside Jazz Trio with Chris Diplock and Terry Walsh as well as an original instrumental project with Paul Mulley from Fort Erie, Ontario. Keep an eye out for some upcoming releases soon!

We were so happy to have Michael on as our very first guest on Minds of Musicians because he has some amazing stories as well as advice from experience as a musician for over 20 years. He is an accomplished singer songwriter, backup singer and opening act for Tears for Fears as well as the John Lennon in a very popular Beatles Tribute The Caverners (check them out here)
Michael talks about how got his start in the music industry as a teenager singing with his family in the kitchen, how the Caverners got their start over 20 years ago and an incredible story of how he got his music out there and how he ended up touring the world with Tears for Fears.
