“The Way of Life and the Way of Death”
Psalm 119:113-120 (Samekh)
1. The calamity of “double-minded people”
* Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (NIV)
* James 1:5-8 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” (NIV)
* Deuteronomy 11:26-28 “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse — the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.” (NIV)
* “Tranquilla Trampeltreu” by Michael Ende
2. The happiness of “those whose God is their shield”
* The faith of Toshio Katsuma (cartoonist & illustrator)
* Isaiah 43:4 “… you are precious and honored in my sight…and I love you…” (NIV)
“My Armor”
“At times there is a headwind, but my enemy is not the headwind. Neither is whomever is around me. It’s just the undaunting weakness inside me. However, it’s because I recognize that weakness, you who are the ultimate armor, whisper to me from behind. Yes, it is at those times.”
“Sketch”
“You washed my dirty body for me, and my cleaned body became like a new sketchbook. I get to draw what happens today in there. You unravel what to draw, so I am always filled with anticipation.”
Thoughts to share at Mini Church:
1. When is it that you are tempted to fall into “double mindedness”?
2. When do you sense that “God is your hiding place”?
