We focus on the heartbreaking theme of Tisha B'Av that God (sometimes appears to) ignore our prayers, by focusing on the experience nine years ago when three Jewish boys were kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in Israel - were our prayers in vain? And we turn from national mourning to individual mourning to share advice on what to say and what not to say to a mourner, from two very different sources.

This morning we discuss the interesting way we, the Jewish People, make the Shabbat, even though it starts automatically at sunset. We analyze the insight of Or HaChaim, that our Mitzvah, to start Shabbat early - the general custom is 18 minutes before sunset - creates the reality of Shabbat to which even God agrees, and expresses our yearning and enthusiasm for the holiness of Shabbat. This yearning and enthusiasm is as important as the careful observance of the details of Shabbat.
