Mirror Box Films Podcast

Sonya and Hudson chat through July's theme and tackle what INDEPENDENCE means to them and how they've learned to redefine success as indie filmmakers and creatives.

Alex and Monica geek out over the 90s action flick masterpiece INDEPENDENCE DAY (probably maybe possibly the greatest patriotic film of all time).

This month, Alex and Monica do another historic walk through the world of supporting characters, what roles they play in film and literature (hint: they’re important), and teach us some new words along the way.

Sonya and Hudson (who clearly couldn't get his mic to work right in this episode) take a look at the theme of CHARACTER. They discuss their favorite movie characters, walk us through how to write great characters, and how to apply and recognize those lessons in our own lives.

This week Alex and Monica walk us through a deep dive of the 90 year history of horror films and how they adapt to and reflect the fears of society as a whole.

Alex and Monica explore the topic of writing characters with identities different than your own, focusing on tropes to avoid when developing the characters and how to research these identities in order to portray them most accurately.

Hudson & Sonya chat about IDENTITY and discuss our desire to belong, where we first saw ourselves reflected on screen, and what we can do to push diversity in everything we create.

Monica and Alex host a new monthly segment called "Study Up" where they'll take one topic surrounding our monthly theme, go out and explore it, and come back and report about what they learned. This week, they tell us how they started their first podcast, "Shot for Shot," and the lessons they learned along the way that apply to anyone beginning a new creative endeavor.

Hudson & Sonya talk all about BEGINNINGS this month. From explaining what Mirror Box is and why it exists to exploring how we got started in our filmmaking careers to helping you define the WHAT and the WHY of your creative dreams.
