CATEGORY IS: REPRESENTATION R-E-P-R-E-S-E-N-T! Find out what it means to me…well, what it means to us! In this episode, Arnold & Grey explore the role and impact of representation in the world, or the lack thereof, in their lives. The ability to see oneself reflected in the world around them can be validating and inspiring – but what happens when that's not the case? Grey discusses how glimpses of representation can often come through as saturated stereotypes – that don't always feel applicable and have made him question his own identity and relationship with said stereotype. Arnold explains how lack of visibility into alternative stories drives his yearning for more, but also helped him recognize those in power writing these stories are creating a funhouse mirror to reflect how others expect us to be rather than who we are in reality. Knowing that the mirror is warped & creating dissent – but also helps to recognize which parts of your identity need validation. For instance: MENTAL HEALTH! Queue the Alanis Morissette! Together, your hosts realize that representation can be galvanizing and provide power, and sometimes it's up to you to pick up that charge. So if you don't see it now, perhaps it's an opportunity for you to become that representation & be that mirror for someone else. In the end, we all belong and deserve to be wherever we want, so TAKE UP SPACE AND REPRESENT HEAUX!!!
