Sean Flynn, son of the infamous playboy Errol Flynn, was an actor and a freelance photojournalist. In 1970, while on assignment in Cambodia, Sean and a colleague were captured by Communist guerrillas. Neither were seen again- Sean Flynn would be declared legally dead in 1984.

Candice Bergen is famous for her acting abilities and there was of course her connection to the Manson Murders through her boyfriend - but her being left out of her father's will in favor of a puppet is not as well-known. Edgar Bergen was a renowned ventriloquist and radio performer. His puppet Charlie McCarthy was mentioned in the will. Candice Bergen hated she was always referred to as "Charlie's sister" while growing up.

Yugoslavia was caught in the middle between warring factors of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and then later Soviet Union and the Allies during World War 2. Initially, Yugoslavia had declared its neutrality, but invasion, occupation and partition soon followed in 1941. It became known for its dictators, partisans and the suffering of the people is not well known.

Chandra Levy, an intern in Washington, D.C., disappeared in May 2001. Her case made headlines when her voicemail was checked- a message from Gary Condit checking on her was heard. Condit represented California's 18th Congressional district in the house of Representatives. His extramarital affair with the young woman would cause a world sensation of press coverage. He was ruled out as a suspect- but never could get over the damage to his political aspirations.
Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic pushed an agenda of nationalism and promoted xenophobia toward other ethnicities in Yugoslavia. In the 1990s, some 100,000 Bosnian Muslims and Croation civilians were murdered. Some 50,000 children and women were raped. Mass killing sites are still being discovered today.

It was a small group of submariners who survived the initial explosion and flooding by isolating themselves in an aft compartment, despite being crippled and trapped on the seafloor.
