  • Kyle Overmyer: The Sheriff Who Became the Inmate
Kyle Overmyer was once one of the youngest sheriffs in Ohio, a former narcotics officer who worked undercover, bought kilos of cocaine, and built a reputation for taking drug dealers off the streets.
Then his own life began to unravel.
What started with a legitimate prescription for painkillers turned into opioid addiction. Kyle says he began doctor-shopping, stealing Percocet from his father, and eventually going through prescription drugs surrendered to law enforcement inside his own sheriff’s office.
    In 2016, everything collapsed.
Kyle was hit with a 43-count indictment, booked through the same system he once controlled, and ultimately sentenced to four years in prison.
In this conversation with Rachel Uchitel, Kyle opens up about the double life he was living, the ego that convinced him he could keep running for sheriff even after being charged, entering prison as a former law-enforcement officer, spending 30 days in solitary confinement, being offered pills almost immediately, carrying a shank for protection, losing his marriage and career, and rebuilding his life after release.
He also talks about becoming homeless after prison, taking a $9.50-an-hour job frying chicken, repairing his relationship with his children, and eventually returning to addiction recovery, public service, and law-enforcement-related work.
This is a story about power, addiction, accountability, prison, and what it takes to build a life again after losing almost everything.

  • Jailed for Weed: How a Single Mom Became a Drug Dealer to Support Her Son
Karly Cramer never set out to become a drug dealer.
In 2009, she was a struggling single mom in Scottsdale, Arizona, trying to make ends meet when a friend introduced her to the world of marijuana delivery.
What started as a small side hustle quickly grew.
Karly went from nervously spending nearly everything she had on her first six pounds of weed to supplying other delivery services and moving far more product than she ever imagined.
Then it all caught up with her.
After multiple arrests — including one traffic stop where she says police found 100 pounds of marijuana and $22,000 in cash — Karly was sentenced to jail.
But jail didn’t just end one chapter of her life. It completely changed the way she saw the criminal justice system.
Karly says being incarcerated exposed her to people struggling with addiction, mental illness, and circumstances she felt were being treated with punishment instead of help. From the moment she walked out, she says she was never the same.
Today, through Jailed for Weed, Karly advocates for people serving long prison sentences for marijuana offenses and works to bring attention to cases she believes have been forgotten.
In this episode, Karly opens up about how she built the business, what her son knew, the fear of getting caught, the arrests that changed everything, the guilt she still carries as a mother, and why she now spends her life fighting for people still behind bars.

  • Episode 585: Jim Kwik: Build These Brain Skills Before AI Makes Them Weaker
Is technology making you smarter, or are you slowly training your brain to do less? We are living in a world where AI can write our emails, answer our questions, organize our thoughts, remember information, and make decisions faster than we ever could on our own. Our phones remember everything for us. GPS tells us where to go. Social media constantly competes for our attention. And the more convenient technology becomes, the easier it is to stop exercising the memory, focus, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that make us human. This matters because your brain adapts to how you use it. You can deliberately train your focus, memory, confidence, adaptability, and ability to think for yourself. You can protect the first few minutes of your morning, stop giving away your attention, create friction before immediately turning to AI, and build mental strength the same way you build physical strength. The goal is to use technology as a tool while continuing to develop the human intelligence that allows you to make better decisions, solve harder problems, and adapt when the world changes. Jim Kwik is a brain performance expert, bestselling author, and leading voice on memory, focus, accelerated learning, and human intelligence. After experiencing a traumatic brain injury and learning challenges as a child, he dedicated his life to understanding how the brain learns and how people can improve their cognitive performance. His latest book, Limitless Daily, focuses on simple daily practices designed to strengthen your mind, improve performance, and help you make meaningful progress one day at a time. What's Discussed: (04:07) How relying on AI and technology to remember and think for us can weaken the cognitive skills we stop using. (06:42) Why AI is no longer the real competitive advantage and why human intelligence, judgment, creativity, and critical thinking matter more. (27:43) Why the first five minutes after waking can shape your focus, mood, and perspective for the rest of the day. (37:31) Why confidence comes after action and how doing difficult things creates evidence that you are capable. (41:47) How deliberately thinking before turning to AI can help strengthen cognitive flexibility and mental resilience. (55:44) How scrolling, bingeing, and getting rewarded before doing the work can reduce motivation and make follow-through harder. (59:28) How the questions you repeatedly ask yourself shape what your brain notices and reinforce the beliefs you already hold. (01:00:25) Why reading too slowly can make your mind wander and how increasing your pace can improve focus and comprehension. (01:13:43) How multitasking and constant task switching drain focus, increase mistakes, and waste mental energy. (01:19:29) Why remembering someone's name can strengthen relationships, improve likability, and even affect major business opportunities.

  • Episode 584: Matthew Hussey: Relationship Psychology: Why Strong Chemistry Can Keep You Stuck
What if the person you cannot get over was never actually your person? We tend to give enormous weight to chemistry and connection, especially when we find someone we like who seems to like us back. That feeling can be powerful enough to make us overlook a harder truth: connection alone does not create a relationship. Without commitment and compatibility, chemistry can keep you emotionally invested in someone who is never actually choosing you. Matthew Hussey breaks down the four levels of a relationship, from attraction to compatibility, and explains why so many people get stuck at the stage that feels the most exciting. He also explores why unfinished relationships can become so difficult to let go of. The future you imagined can start to feel more real than the relationship itself, keeping you attached to potential instead of what is actually happening. Matthew Hussey is a relationship coach, bestselling author, speaker, and host of the Love Life podcast. His work focuses on dating, heartbreak, confidence, communication, and helping people build healthier relationships by paying attention to how someone actually shows up, rather than relying on chemistry or potential alone. What's Discussed: (00:00) Why connection and chemistry can feel incredibly important without actually creating a relationship. (01:27) The four levels of a relationship: admiration, mutual attraction, commitment, and compatibility. (03:46) Why someone choosing not to be with you cannot be "your person." (05:07) How heartbreak can come from grieving the future you imagined rather than losing an actual soulmate. (07:58) Why unfinished relationships and "what could have been" can occupy so much mental space. (09:20) How romantic fantasy can become a form of avoidance that keeps you from participating in your real life. (12:37) Why real relationships are built through commitment, difficulty, and repeatedly choosing one another. (13:47) How to intentionally move on by removing reminders, limiting updates, and stopping the person from remaining part of your everyday life.

  • Jay Paterno Discusses the Penn State Scandal and the Legacy of Joe Paterno
Jay Paterno—former Penn State assistant football coach, author, and current member of Penn State’s Board of Trustees—joins Miss Understood to discuss the 2011 Penn State scandal that reshaped college football and permanently altered the legacy of his father, legendary coach Joe Paterno. Jay walks through the timeline surrounding Jerry Sandusky, a former assistant coach later convicted on dozens of counts of child sexual abuse, and explains how the fallout expanded beyond Sandusky’s crimes to implicate Penn State leadership, leading to Joe Paterno’s firing despite never being criminally charged. He shares what it was like to witness the scandal as both a son and an employee, reflects on his father’s death just two months later, the removal of Joe Paterno’s statue, and why he continues to challenge the narrative of a cover-up.

  • Episode 583: Dr. David Perlmutter: Brain Health Expert: The Daily Habits That Protect Your Brain as You Age
What if the health of your brain decades from now is being shaped by what you are doing today? We tend to think about Alzheimer's and cognitive decline as problems that show up later in life, once memory starts slipping or confusion becomes noticeable. But many of the factors associated with brain decline can begin much earlier. Blood sugar, insulin resistance, sleep, inflammation, muscle mass, exercise, social connection, oral health, and even the medications you regularly take may all influence the environment your brain is aging in. This matters because brain health gives you more areas to act on than most people realize. You can pay attention to metabolic markers before they become major problems, build and preserve muscle, protect your sleep, stay socially connected, take care of your oral microbiome, and understand which emerging therapies actually have evidence behind them. The earlier you start thinking about your brain this way, the more opportunity you have to influence how well it functions later. Dr. David Perlmutter is a board-certified neurologist, six-time New York Times bestselling author, and internationally recognized expert in brain health, nutrition, and neurodegenerative disease. His latest book, Brain Defenders, explores microglia, the brain's immune cells, and how their function may influence conditions including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. His work focuses on giving people practical ways to protect brain health through metabolism, lifestyle, and emerging neuroscience. What's Discussed: (05:51) What research suggests about slowing or even improving cognitive decline in people already diagnosed with Alzheimer's through intensive lifestyle intervention. (10:47) Why Alzheimer's should not be viewed as purely genetic and how lifestyle and metabolic health can influence risk even when genetic predispositions are present. (12:19) How loneliness and social isolation may affect brain health through stress, cortisol, oxytocin, inflammation, and changes in the brain's immune cells. (20:50) Why the biological conditions associated with cognitive decline may begin in your 40s and 50s, decades before memory problems become obvious. (30:34) How exercise supports the brain through BDNF, irisin, and other chemicals released during muscle activity, and why both cardio and strength training matter. (38:00) Why restorative sleep is an active period for memory consolidation and brain recovery, and how fragmented sleep can undermine brain health even when you spend eight hours in bed. (1:04:34) What the science currently says about NAD, NR, NMN, and IV NAD for mitochondrial function, biological aging, and cognitive health. (1:12:04) How periodontal disease, the oral microbiome, and frequent use of certain antibacterial mouthwashes may affect nitric oxide, metabolism, and long-term brain health. (1:23:05) What emerging research says about GLP-1 drugs for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, and why using or microdosing them specifically for brain protection is still ahead of the evidence. (1:33:25) Why homocysteine and fasting insulin are two blood markers worth paying attention to when assessing metabolic and long-term brain health.

  • Episode 582: How Constant Health Optimization Makes Us Less Happy and Healthy
What if all this optimizing is actually making us less happy? Sleep scores, step counts, glucose monitors, supplements, peptides, wearables, and endless wellness protocols have turned health into something we constantly track, measure, and try to perfect. But when every meal, workout, night of sleep, and social plan becomes another data point, the pursuit of better health can start creating more stress than clarity. You may look disciplined and optimized on the outside while feeling anxious, restricted, and disconnected from the life you are trying to improve. Technology has also changed the way we trust our own bodies. We wake up feeling fine, check a low sleep score, and suddenly decide we are exhausted. We skip dinners, birthday cake, travel, drinks, and time with friends because we are afraid of disrupting a routine or hurting a metric. The tools designed to support our health can begin controlling our choices, until we are protecting the routine more than we are enjoying the results. The real question is not always "How can I optimize this?" Sometimes it is "Is this actually improving my life?" Health should give you more energy, freedom, connection, and joy. It should not make you afraid of food, obsessed with numbers, or unwilling to be spontaneous. Every protocol, product, and intervention comes with a tradeoff, and more optimization does not automatically mean better physical or mental health. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, I talk about when healthy habits cross the line into obsession, why sleep trackers and wellness scores may create more anxiety than clarity, how people are sacrificing dinners, birthdays, relationships, and spontaneity to protect their routines, and why looking optimized on the outside does not always mean you are healthy on the inside.   What's Discussed: (01:25) Whether constant optimization is making us less happy. (03:11) When tracking and hacking every part of life becomes an obsession. (04:41) Where healthy optimization ends and extreme wellness behavior begins. (05:48) Why checking your sleep score can create more stress than clarity. (06:46) Why looking thin or optimized does not necessarily mean you are healthy. (07:45) How the wellness industry profits by selling fear and endless solutions. (08:17) Why people are optimizing their lives without actually enjoying them. (09:22) How protecting your routine can cost you dinners, birthdays, and relationships. (09:50) Why sleep tracker data can change how tired you believe you feel. (10:33) How technology and constant tracking have weakened human connection. (11:35) Why a phone call can be more efficient than endless texts and meetings. (16:37) Why chasing money, fitness, beauty, and longevity can leave you with fewer memories.   Thank You to Our Sponsors!

  • Suzanne Lossia: The Arranged Marriage, the Divorce & the Life She Built After
Suzanne Lossia may look like she has always lived a glamorous, larger-than-life life — but the story behind it is anything but simple.
Suzanne joins Rachel Uchitel to open up about growing up in a traditional Chaldean-American family, being pushed into an arranged marriage as a teenager, and realizing before the wedding that she did not love the man she was expected to marry. She talks about becoming a mother, living in a relationship she now describes as transactional, dealing with infidelity, and eventually making the decision to leave despite having little education, no real career, and no idea how she was going to survive on her own.
Suzanne also gets candid about the years that followed — struggling to keep a roof over her children’s heads, living without electricity at times, selling possessions to survive, and trying to rebuild her life as a single mother.
Then came a completely different chapter: television opportunities, Food Network, restaurants, entrepreneurship, and eventually a move to Palm Beach where Suzanne says she is finally learning to live life for herself.
This is a conversation about family expectations, freedom, motherhood, survival, faith, reinvention — and what happens when you finally decide the life everyone planned for you is no longer the life you want.

  • Episode 581: Dr. Joey Munoz: Nutrition Myths, Muscle Loss, and Sustainable Fat Loss
Are your health habits helping you live better, or are they quietly making your life more complicated? We are surrounded by nutrition rules, supplement stacks, protein targets, fasting windows, wearables, weight-loss drugs, and viral claims about foods we have been eating for decades. A banana in your smoothie is suddenly a problem. Every snack needs added protein. Everyone thinks they need electrolytes. People lose weight quickly without thinking about the muscle they may be losing with it. And in the process of trying to become healthier, many people become afraid to eat, travel, miss a workout, or enjoy their lives. This matters because better health rarely comes from obsessing over every minor detail. It comes from building muscle, eating enough whole foods, understanding your own habits, and creating a routine you can return to after an imperfect week. Strength training can improve your metabolism, mobility, confidence, and discipline. Nutrition should support your life. Data should help you make decisions. And a healthy routine should give you more freedom, not turn you into a prisoner of your own wellness protocol. Dr. Joey Munoz is a nutrition expert, coach, and the founder of Stronger Standard. He has a PhD in nutrition and focuses on evidence-based fat loss, muscle building, sustainable habits, and helping people cut through nutrition misinformation. His work combines nutrition science, strength training, behavioral psychology, and practical coaching to help people improve their health without relying on extreme diets or constantly chasing the latest trend.   What's Discussed: (02:47) Why viral nutrition claims about bananas and smoothies create unnecessary fear and confusion. (08:31) When healthy eating, perfect routines, and longevity protocols begin damaging your quality of life. (13:13) How rapid weight loss on GLP-1 medications can increase muscle loss without strength training and adequate nutrition. (22:22) Why intermittent fasting is overrated as a unique fat-loss or autophagy strategy. (28:07) The simple foundations of a healthy diet and why eliminating entire food groups is usually unnecessary. (34:08) Why protein has become overmarketed and how much you may actually need. (38:48) How to return to your routine after travel or overeating without punishment, restriction, or giving up. (50:13) Why the carnivore diet and fear of "plant toxins" ignore dose, context, and how the body adapts to stress. (53:40) Which popular supplements may be wasting your money, including greens powders, hydration products, BCAAs, and expensive forms of creatine. (01:05:09) How muscle supports blood sugar regulation, cardiovascular health, body composition, and long-term independence. (01:07:46) Why proper strength training can improve mobility when you prioritize control and range of motion over heavier weight. (01:11:16) How strength training builds discipline, confidence, consistency, and skills that transfer into every part of life.   Thank You to Our Sponsors! • Episode 580: Plastic Surgery, Comparison, and the Hidden Cost of Chasing Perfection
What if changing your face has nothing to do with how you feel about yourself? Plastic surgery has become more normalized, more accessible, and more visible than ever. We watch people document facelifts, nose jobs, injectables, and cosmetic procedures in real time, which can make major medical decisions feel as casual as booking a facial. But the polished before-and-after photo rarely shows the full story.  Social media, filters, Zoom, and constantly seeing ourselves in photos and on video have changed the way we evaluate our appearance. We notice every angle, compare our real faces to edited ones, and start believing that changing one feature will finally make us feel more confident. But a procedure can alter your appearance without changing the way you see yourself. If the insecurity underneath it is never addressed, you may simply find something new to criticize. The real question is not always "What should I change?" Sometimes it is "Why do I believe changing this will make me feel better?" Cosmetic procedures are personal decisions, but they should never be treated casually. Understanding the risks, researching the doctor, asking specific questions about recovery, and being honest about your expectations matter far more than following a trend or choosing the surgeon with the biggest social media following. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, I share how social media and filters are changing the way we see ourselves, why plastic surgery may not fix the insecurity underneath it, what people rarely tell you about complications and recovery, and why online popularity does not necessarily make someone the best surgeon for the job. What's Discussed: (02:15) Why plastic surgery has become more normalized, accessible, and visible than ever. (03:55) How a nose job led to breathing problems, complications, and multiple corrective procedures. (05:41) Why the polished before-and-after rarely shows the full risks of cosmetic surgery. (07:03) Why researching a surgeon's aesthetic style and medical expertise matters. (08:42) Why cosmetic procedures are far more invasive than social media makes them appear. (10:36) How confidence and the way you carry yourself can shape how attractive you feel. (12:00) Why constantly seeing ourselves on cameras, Zoom, and social media may damage self-image. (13:11) How filters and edited photos are changing what people ask surgeons to create. (14:05) Why natural-looking plastic surgery has become the newest status symbol. (17:28) Why a surgeon's social media popularity does not necessarily reflect their skill. (20:29) Why fixing one insecurity may only give you something else to criticize.   Thank You to Our Sponsors!
