  • EP64 | Steph Allen - ACL Communication and Strong A** Women

    We're joined once again by Steph Allen (first appearance ep. 37). Steph will be speaking about ACL with Wesley Wang (Ep. 61) at the CALU summit. Steph will be addressing communication and psychosocial considerations at the summit. Here's a bit of a taste of what you can expect from Steph, enjoy and see you at the summit!

    Bio:
    Steph graduated from the Ithaca College DPT program in 2013, then decided to stay in the Ithaca and complete an orthopedic manual therapy residency at Cayuga Medical Center.  At the end of 2014, she embarked on the adventure that is travel PT and worked in NY, CA, NM and CO. Hungry to learn more about strength and conditioning and sports physical therapy, she sought out an amazing opportunity in Boston and is now a senior physical therapist at Boston Physical Therapy and Wellness.Here, she is spearheading community outreach and education in youth sports, specifically in the area of ACL injury risk reduction. She is also the co-founder of The Level Up Initiative, which aims to create a culture shift and positive change in healthcare through mentorship of new graduates and students. Steph is passionate about establishing a higher standard in youth training and movement development so as to shift to a more proactive model vs. reactive. She is determined to see injury rates decline, and to see the profession of physical therapy evolve to where the standard of care is reflective of the best available evidence.

    Dr. Ray is a chiropractor based out of Harrisonburg, VA. He owns and operate Shenandoah Valley Performance Clinic and specializes in the rehabilitation of neuromusculoskeletal issues, associated pain, and dysfunction. He enjoys helping athletes from various backgrounds return to their desired level of activity. His primary goals for working with clients, educate about their situation and collaboratively design a game-plan to move them from where they are at to where they want to be.

    Dr. Jarred Boyd currently works for the NBA franchise, Memphis Grizzlies as a Performance Physical Therapist. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Jarred was on staff at Rehab 2 Perform in Frederick, Maryland. He currently is still involved with the R2P Academy Continuing Education platform.

    As a sport’s physical therapist, Dr. Boyd’s goal is to facilitate return to activity and enhance athlete’s potential by identifying opportunities to enhance durability and sustainability.


    Jason Eure, PT, DPT, CSCS, USAW-1 is a Physical Therapist and clinic director for PT Solutions in Vienna, Virginia. In addition to clinical duties, he currently serves as a Stronger By Science coach and acts as a strength and conditioning coach to national and international-level swimmers. His interests include exercise prescription with a focus on return to sport and the management of tendinopathy.

    Nicole is a physical therapist and performance coach who specializes in return to play for athletes after an injury. A former division-1 soccer player herself, she understands the importance of getting back to performance levels of sport for the athlete and tailors the rehab and reconditioning program to suit the athlete’s specific sport, position, and individual demands.     We're joined by Rich Willy out of Montana to talk about runners, biomechanics, and (not surprisingly) strength training! Enjoy the episode.

    Bio:
    Dr. Rich Willy is an assistant professor in the School of Physical Therapy, University of Montana. He received his PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware and his masters in physical therapy from Ohio University. His research aims to develop clinically effective treatments for individuals with patellofemoral pain, Achilles tendon injuries, or bone stress injuries. He focuses his research on two populations: endurance runners and tactical athletes. His work is currently supported by the US Department of Defense.  Dr. Willy has nearly 50 peer reviewed publications and is a national and international presenter of his research and clinical expertise on how to evaluate and treat the injured runner. Most recently, he was the lead author on the APTA’s Clinical Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Patellofemoral Pain

    Greg Lehman is a practicing physiotherapist, researcher and educator in Toronto, Canada with over 20 years experience in the rehabilitation field.  Greg’s background includes a MSc in Spine Biomechanics, MSc in Physiotherapy and a Chiropractic degree.  Greg has published more than 20 peer reviewed publications in the manual therapy and exercise science fields.  He has a special interest in the multidimensional nature of pain and injury and believes that simple yet comprehensive approaches are a cornerstone of the biopsychosocial approach to patient care.  Greg has taught the popular “Reconciling Biomechanics with Pain Science” course for 5 years to 1000s of therapist throughout the world.  The course is about fundamentals and finding the common threads of many rehabilitation approaches. Greg will be giving a Keynote on how simple and tailored education and exercise strategies can be part of a multidimensional approach to pain and injury rehabilitation

  • EP57 | Jacob Templar - Updates after a year (MDT and pain knowledge)

    Jacob first joined Matt on Episode 23 of the show. It's been over a year now and Jacob has learned a lot more about pain and his application of MDT. 

    Bio
    Jacob graduated from Utica College with a Bachelor's of Science in Health Studies and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Jacob has earned Certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy for spine and extremity, and also has earned qualification with Integrated Musculoskeletal Care as an Affiliate Outcomes Accountable clinician. Jacob has performed extensive post-graduate training with over 300 contact hours in Advanced Orthopedic and Sports rehabilitation. Jacob has also done additional post graduate training in vestibular rehab and post-concussion management. Additionally,  Jacob also has training on modern pain concepts and strategies to help people with chronic pain conditions. In addition to working for Physical Therapy Services of Rochester, Jacob is a consultant for The Strength Guys are an internationally renowned Powerlifting Strength and Conditioning group. He also coordinates students within his clinic.

    Nathan Kadlecek owns a hybrid physical therapy practice, Cash Pay and Medicare, in Monterey, CA. He competes in powerlifting, played football and baseball in college, successfully completed one mountaineering trip (barely), Shoe Dog by Phil Knight (a memoir about Nike) is his all time favorite book and captures his own ethos, and few things get him as excited as presenting to groups of people eager to learn about the science of pain.  He’s lived all over the country, completing his B.Sc degree of Exercise Science in Arkansas at Harding University and his Doctor of Physical Therapy education at Columbia University in New York City
