Revelation can be a very challenging letter to understand. On the surface it sounds more like a story from Lord of the Rings than one that fits in the Bible. However, the truth is that Revelation is a letter that uses imagery, symbolism, numerology, and metaphors that take place all over the Old Testament. And the Jews reading this letter would have understood the meaning quite well. We, on the other hand, struggle with what things mean like the number 666, or the mark of the beast. In our modern culture we misinterpreted or intentionally not done the work to understand Revelation from the perspective of those who wrote and read it 2000 years ago. And we assume it is a letter filled with a secret code to help us know the time and circumstances of the end times. This is not what Revelation is about. Check out this week's podcast to learn a little more about the weird things happening in this letter.
