During the weeks leading up to Resurrection Sunday we will be preaching through a series titled Mosaic. In this series we are looking at different theories of atonement and what Jesus accomplished on the cross. In this interview with lead pastor Russell Schultz we dive into some things that didn't make it into the message for week one of the series, as well as some questions that came to mind during the sermon.

When Jesus went to the cross he accomplished many things. In addition to taking our place in dying on the cross, he also gave us a new way to live. 1 Corinthians says, "as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive." Although through Adam sin flows through all of humanity, through faith in Jesus redemption can flow through humanity as well. When God created Adam He said, "Let us make man in our image" by this declaration God reveals that all parts of him were before Adam and reflected by Adam. The son existed before Adam and therefore can overcome the source of sin that Adam was by giving us a new source of life.

In this two part conversation we are joined by Nick Swearingen of Lenexa Baptist Church to talk about what hearing from God sounds like and how you can experience it more in your own life.

In this new series we hope to piece together different aspects of what Jesus did on the cross to help give us a more full picture of how meaningful it truly was. Sort of like a mosaic. One thing you probably hear most about the cross is that Jesus took our place. You may think that no one has ever threatened to put you on a cross, so how is that possible? The reality is that because God chose to partner with humans to create goodness and peace in this world we have a responsibility to God for his creation. Unfortunately we just don't hold up our end of the deal. Every one of us add to the evil and destruction of this world through our own sin and because of that we deserve to die. Jesus however was perfect and didn't deserve to die. So although you may never have been at risk to be crucified, Jesus did die the death you deserved so that you could experience true life in him. But this is just one part of the picture of the cross.

Is contentment in any circumstance truly possible? For Paul, the secret to contentment through beatings, imprisonment, and ridicule was a belief in Christ that always gave him strength. According to Paul, he could face having an abundance or nothing as long as he remembered that his strength was found in Christ. Three questions can help you determine if this is also true for you. Do you believe that Christ is the source of true contentment? Do you actions show it? What is currently at the center of your contentment or discontentment with life?
