The conversation highlights discipleship as a core value of Vision Baptist Missions. John Pearson shares his personal story of salvation in 1982 and how a faithful Christian, Jimmy Clanton, discipled him by patiently walking through the Bible with him and modeling the Christian life.

John emphasizes that discipleship is not a program or a class but a relationship with Christ, lived out through friendships and the local church. He explains that true discipleship involves learning, watching others model Christ, and being grounded in a church community.

Key points include:

Discipleship is rooted in Scripture (2 Timothy 2:2, Matthew 28).

It’s relational, not transactional—friends helping friends grow in Christ.

The local church is the best environment for discipleship.

Every Christian should both learn from someone and disciple others.

Discipleship never ends; the goal is to continually grow and to teach others.

Obstacles often include lack of interest, time, and confidence, but God uses simple faithfulness to multiply disciples.

John concludes that Jesus—not any person—is the true model of discipleship, and the Great Commission calls every believer to be engaged in this lifelong work.

Serving in South Africa since 2013, the Coffeys have been part of 4 church plants, launched Camp Rhino, and opened the Rhino Youth Home. With 5 children and now a grandbaby on the way, they’re passionate about raising up the next generation of missionaries.

Mark and Amy both felt God’s call to missions through trips to Peru and have served in both Peru and South Africa. They see Africa as a wide-open field—beautiful, growing fast, and deeply in need of the gospel. Their heart is to love, disciple, and give hope to kids who often grow up without stable families.
