Your needs are met by Jesus, who serves beside the Father in the real heavenly sanctuary. Old Testament priests and offerings were just a pale shadow of the greater reality and greater promises God gives you through faith in Jesus.

Jesus is everything we are not- holy, innocent, unstained, separate from sinners, exalted above the heavenly places. To be with God we need to be like Jesus, but we are not. So Jesus is a fitting high priest, providing everything we need when once-for-all He offered Himself for our salvation.

The OT priesthood and law were weak and useless, unable to make God's people perfect and come near Him. God set them aside, sending His Son to save us completely, to the uttermost, so we can approach our Father freely.

Melchizedek is such a great king and priest that even Abraham, the great patriarch of the Jewish people, received a blessing from him and paid him a tenth of the war spoils as the king's allotted due. But Melchizedek is just a pattern of a greater reality, the greater priest-king Jesus Christ.

God has promised the blessings of salvation in His Son Jesus- eternal life, peace, justice, joy, happiness, etc. Jesus went through the curtain - into God's presence - as a forerunner to lead us to the same place, and to announce to the Father, -See these following me, they're coming, too--

Unto us a child is born- unto us a son is given. God's gift to us is His own Son, to be the one to fulfill His own promises. That tiny baby is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace that meets all our hopes, desires, and needs.

Sluggish, complacent Christianity is all too easy- legitimate reasons to -take a break- soon become convenient excuses. Hebrews urges us to earnestly, diligently pursue the spiritual inheritance God has promised to give us.

In the midst of encouraging his readers to pursue mature Christianity, the author of Hebrews warns against apostasy. If you're not progressing in your faith, you're regressing, and apostasy could be a terrible, dangerous result.

Too many Christians are satisfied with only milk for spiritual nutrition. Immature kids drink milk, mature adults eat real food. Brothers and sisters, it's time to move up to the grownup table and eat grownup food.

Jesus is a greater high priest than even Aaron, able to deal with our sin by His self-sacrifice, able to deal gently with us due to His testing and suffering as a man. In the end He is the source of eternal salvation and every blessing that goes with it.
