Toward the end of 2016, as gun violence in Chicago reached its highest levels in 20 years, a group of Chicago area faith, business, community, non-profit, civic and government leaders met to explore the common question they asked themselves: “Is there more that can be done to address the root causes of the violence we are experiencing?” From these conversations, Together Chicago was born. She was born into a family with 3 generations of missionaries. Many of her childhood memories were conversations around the dinner table with people from around the world. But her father told her something important early on, “The mission field is where God has called you!”. So, with that foundation, she began a journey that took her through the Army, Mandarin and Asian Studies, global operations, and more. Now, she utilizes her experience to train people through faith and innovation with an emphasis on women and diversity in the workplace. That’s this week on Missions Today.

As a young boy, his family faced tragedy. But it was this tragedy that showed him two things: the value of life, and the need to share the life-giving message of the Gospel with as many as possible. Our guest this week wasn’t raised in a Christian home, but before he was out of college, the Lord had met him where he was. After some failure and success in launching businesses, he and his wife moved their family to Kenya where he began to meet with local entrepreneurs. Before long, he had had over 500 coffee meetings and had begun personal relationships with many of them. These “coffee meetings” would ultimately impact his life and the lives of many in Kenya through business growth and development. She was born in the Philippines. Her mother came to Christ through a local church and a legacy of faith began.
