Our last episode of the season and of our series - Melanin & Motherhood!  Shalya Forte -  advertising executive joins us with a very emotional story of how she almost died during and after her childbirth. She shares with us her experience, what she did to protect herself, and what things you should look out for in your birthing journey.  Maternal mortality is plaguing our melanin mothers and we have to fix it. We dig into why black women have a higher death rate among women, what preventive measures we can take, and how self-care is so important to our health.

Candii is joined by special guest Faith Broussard Cade, mental health therapist, to dive into mental health with black women. We will discuss some of the negative stigmas with mental health among the black community, generational trauma, and some solutions of how black women can thrive with self-care.
