Simian - Never Be Alone

Forming as university students from Manchester, England in 2000, the psychedelic electronic pop experimentalists Simian (consisting of James Ford, Jas Shaw, Alex MacNaghten and Simon Lord) made a name for themselves by blending 60s style harmonies and hypnotic Krautrock rhythms with the Brit Pop of their era to form an original and unique sound. 2002’s Never Be Alone ends with Simon Lord screaming “We are your friends, you’ll never be alone again!” over a pulsating, staccato organ synth and a beautiful, lilting falsetto harmony. Simian made two brilliant albums before breaking up but were resurrected in 2006 when Never Be Alone was remixed by the French producers, Justice for a college radio song contest. The song was a giant success and propelled Justice and their label, Ed Banger Records, to stardom. It also contributed to Ford and Shaw getting back together to create a successful dance group of their own called Simian Mobile Disco.
